It is a complex thing, people who need help shouldn't have to be afraid of an attack on they're defensive rights.

Also people with mental health problems on average tend not to be very violent.

Some times I think we've been lucky to be here and not have more issues crop up. Like NFA items, are rich people that are stamp holders less likely to have a temporary psychosis or predeliction to be a criminal? Sure the pool is smaller but all it takes is one person.

And if we start down the slippery slope of blaming the death and injury on access to the tools needed for self defense it won't stop... Ever, even if we are all in the equivalent of jail cells and people are crafting shivs to attack other people.

The only solution is to accept that it happens and prepare to fight back IMHO.

And what do you tell people that are unwilling or incapable of doing so?

60%-70% of gun deaths are suicides. That' a mental health problem. Most mass shooters have had demonstrable histories of severe mental health problems. Had we had the facilities and programs in place to effectively deal with these mental health problems many of them could have been avoided. Mental health services is the key to solving high profile gun deaths.

It's a multifaceted issue. A lot stems from how we are raised and our home life.
religion, community, parents all play a part.
the ease of life these days growing up without facing adversity you aren't trained to deal with problems.
combine that with social media, the endless craze of anxiety and stress will drive anyone nuts.
