Once again we have another tragedy which is ripe for exploitation in the age of anti-Trump hysteria...

The usual suspects, the fake tears, blah blah blah

As usual, once they realize that there will be no gun control (federally at least)...they will forget about how heartbroken they were.

In the end, its only about guns for these people. Not safer schools.

Its not enough that we act defensively... Writing congressmen about securing gun rights is not enough.

We need to call their bluff and beat them over the head with demands that they do something.

Things like mandatory minimum building security standards, physical armed security beyond just a resource officer, training programs and reporting standards for staff to recognize and stop these killers before they strike, etc

There are things that can be done. We need to take hold of the narrative so that when the next one happens WE can go on the offensive and say WHY didn't you do ______ after the last one?

Because we all know that no gun law will stop this... But we do know that if a shooter can't gain entry to the building, he can't kill anyone.
We know that if he is engaged by armed security before reaching the doors, its over before it starts.

we need to compile a list of demands for school safety. And just like the deranged Moms come up with a catchy phrase that identifies the action.--"No armed guards, no safety". "we demand hardened schools" "doing the same thing doesn't work --try armed school security.""Bullet proof glass equals live students" "no entry, no death"

how about armed security , metal detectors , and student ID's at entry ?
like the airport tsa type screening ?
But also it should be looked at the way schools and social media is breeding hate and anger along with family's
teaching hate "example some of the Portland high schools allowing and encouraging student walkouts to protest the President the teach it is ok to protest/riot/break and burn the city and HATE the Police and President,
and the collages are worse with the system teaching and promoting this hate and anti american , no respect
youth of today"
seems like so many forget we will eat the seeds we grow and I think the issue is multi pronged,

how about a guard in a high location observing and filming the surrounding area for any odd activity. When something looks out of place he remotely locks the doors and notifies other security who can discreetly check it out.
Bullet proof glass in the ground level windows, auto locking doors that require a pass through approval.
Maybe the cameras can upload to the "cloud" so that they can be monitored remotely by law enforcement.
an entry way that can be secured at each end to stop a person for evaluation ---once in he doesn't get out with out clearance or until police let him out.
Ways to block hallways and lock the perp between bullet proof panels with no classroom access.
And my favorite electrically charged door handles that deliver the equivalent shock of a taser.

these are the ideas we need to push.

secure entries
security guards on the grounds

even a means to report crazies in a way that offers due process but still checks people who are talking about killing people, torturing animals, etc before they are able to act.

we have to take control of the narrative

A few things are going in. The ongoing narrative is there has been 18-20 school shootings this year. One is too many but use the real number. Use real K-12 school shootings that happen school is in session.

Next, The real numerical if events, not the number of children killed, is low enough they don't really care. The Wall, submarines, billion dollar fighter jets we don't use are more important. As much as they cry, children aren't that much of a priority.

Since many politicians and celebrities maintain that the mere presence of guns is a threat and encourages violence, we need to ban their armed security. For their own safety using their own "logic".
We need to take the right to vote away from anyone who cannot legally own a gun. If you're too irresponsible to own a gun, we darn sure don't want you deciding our government. That might put a damper on the efforts to expand the list of prohibited persons or make the controllers defend letting criminals vote. They've already taken the "civil right" argument off the table.

The biggest problem for our side is we have no billionaire shoveling money at the pro gun politicians and other groups that are pro 2nd amendment

The narrative is important.

Anti-gunners concentrate on two things - the guns/etc., and to a somewhat lesser extent, the shooter, but the shooters still get what they want; the fame or maybe the infamy.

One thing that I do, that isn't physical, but psychological, in online responses is:

I do not get into debates/arguments with the anti-gunners - it never changes their minds, and just gives them a platform to push their views and depending on how good a debater you are, rarely makes you look good and rarely changes the minds of people listening to the debate.

I post (e.g., Facebook) - or counter-post if you will - separately about the heroes in these situations. They are sometimes or even often there. In Florida there was both a coach and a JROTC teen who gave their lives to protect the victims. Generally the anti-gunners don't chime in on those posts with anti-gun narrative, and if they do then they run the risk of looking bad. This also counters the anti-gun narrative of gun owners not caring about the incident. Beyond that, it takes away from the shooter, giving them less 'fame' and puts more attention on the heroes.

I also post about any recent events where someone stopped a shooter, especially if they used a gun to stop the shooter.

In short, try to counter the general trend of the media and anti-gunners to concentrate on the evil of guns and shooters and show the other side of the story, the good guys, especially if they use guns to defend and protect - stories that the media and anti-gunners do not want the public to hear.

I try not to comment on these stories, I just post them and let the anti-gunners either put their foot in their mouths, or silence them altogether.

How about getting the facts of each shooting and decipher what the common denominator is between them.
Say wheather the A-hole was on Pharmaceutical drugs, broken family or bullying from social media. It is not hard to figure out why these kids are going nuts and killing classmates.
There should be accountability for those who know that someone is planning something but they do not say anything to include law enforcement.

Hey, I love football probably more than most, but If the schools in the PNW can raise the money to put artificial turf down on the football fields, they can find the money for metal detectors and security. It doesn't have to be Fort Knox, but it does have to be a serious/credible defense - not some guy sipping coffee and reading a magazine behind a desk. IMO if some idiot kid with "ideas" knows the school will be tenaciously defended, he is less likely to try and carry out his fantasy. (It's not much of a fantasy when you get smoked in the parking lot and nobody sees it).

Re: taxes, Oregonians love taxes and especially for schools. They will raise taxes here no matter what. The biggest group of people here work for the gov't and they have to build out that pyramid scheme to get the job security. If there's no reason to raise taxes, they will make one up. May as well give them a worthwhile project to spend the money on.
