Cover Oregon: some significant progress fixing health exchange: still no enrollment; feds delay penalty deadline

As of Wednesday, Cover Oregon has processed 34 paper applications to determine if people were eligible for financial assistance. These applications were not processed by the website, but by hand starting Oct. 15.

In other news, the Obama administration gave six more weeks to individual consumers who otherwise faced a penalty if they didn't finish applying for coverage by Feb. 15, allowing it to be processed by March 15. Now they must finish applying by coverage by March 31 to avoid a penalty, according to Kaiser Health News.

Some States Reporting Unbelievably Low Health Care Enrollment Numbers (One State’s at Zero!)

The Obamacare rollout has left much to be desired; so much so, in fact, that a few states have reportedly enrolled absolutely no one so far. And there are still other states where enrollment is not quite non-existent, but is still unbelievably low.

Oregon is the most striking example so far. Cover Oregon, the state’s health insurance exchange, has admitted precisely zero people have enrolled due to their “problem-plagued site.” The site was originally going to let consumers sign up directly, but it was then changed to only allow insurance agents and application assisters enroll, which hasn’t happened yet, and officials at Cover Oregon are hoping the site will be up and running properly by Halloween.
Meanwhile, health care navigators in Kansas admitted they have been unable to enroll a single person since Obamacare went live, according to Kansas Watchdog, though there have been some confirmed enrollments through other avenues. The number of those has not, however, been released.
In Michigan it’s <broken link removed> how many have signed up, with absolutely zero confirmation that anyone has been able to do so. Only seven people in Alaska have signed up, and the Obama administration proudly touted all the Delaware citizens who signed up by inviting all one of them to the White House.

Now, I'm not a fan of the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare, but aren't we missing the big picture here?

Depending on which source, Obamacare will perhaps increase the deficit by 30 to 100 billion over the next 10 years. A huge range, and considering they aren't able to sign that many people up yet it could be way off.

On the other hand, we are spending a total of 30 billion a year, at the start, for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Recently we approved 80 billion for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan for 2014. So far we have spent 778 billion on the war effort.

So, 70 billion (average) a year for a war in 2 other countries or 100 billion over 10 years to help our own people? Hmm... Not a hard choice for me? Oh, and this doesn't even count the VA costs for our vets returning home broken and damaged.

To me this is just like people screaming over the ~11,000 non-suicide related firearm deaths a year (Suicide is about 20K a year) . When 600,000 people die each year from heart disease. Hmm. Again, why are people so focused on the small potatoes? Or what about the 575,000 people who die each year from cancer? That is over a million people who die from just two of the top killers, firearms aren't even in the top 10!

Just trying to put things in prospective.
The whole Obamacare is a wag the dog situation, go after the big costs.

Well Morpheus, it goes deeper than that, we the people did not want this kind of a bill (we are happy with what we have), our legislators (all Democrats) did not even read the damn thing, it morphed (no pun intended...) from 2,400 pages to more than 20,000 pages (so they could ad anything they wanted), if we do not want any HC then we are fined $$$ and it has been a complete failure from the start.
It has and will continue to cost us, our children, our grandchildren and our grandchildren's children way too much $$$$ already, where will it stop???
I for one will celebrate the day it is repealed because it is the beginning of a Socialistic republic, which many Americans will fight to the death against Tyranny!!!!!!
