I taught my last NRA Basic Pistol class to a group of Ladies last weekend. I can no longer teach the portion of the course requiring live fire at the range due to the firearm transfer restrictions in 594.

I have contacted numerous "experts" to get opinions on the legality of training beginners with a .22lr pistol I provide and cannot get a response from Washington State officials. The NRA is unsure and feels it will require a court case to determine the answer. I don't want to be that case. Can't afford it. I guess that means they have won this round.

How can the consequences of this poorly written and fraudulently sold initiative be publicized to more than the willing few on the forums? The media is in lock step with the anti-gun crowd.

That is exactly what I was planning on doing...providing .22lr pistols to introduce my female students to shooting...I do not want to be the one who sticks my neck out for a court case either...

I have two classroom only courses scheduled for January, but will have to tell them I am unable to instruct them in the fundamentals of handling/clearing/grip/sight alignment etc. a handgun, depending on what happens with that ridiculous leglislation...:confused: Fortunately, we do cover so much else in class, especially the legal side of use of force, personal awareness, physiological effects of stress, what to say to the police, etc. that I may still be able to offer it...o_O

That money hungry jerks at the NRA are always crying for more money from my pocket, why the heck don't they send in the lawyers to start the lawsuits for this unjust law?!
You know oregon is right behind us!

I think you might get by the law by having students buy their own guns for the class. Everyone buys the same gun and the instructor has the same too. You could teach a class without touching anyone's gun in this way. Or find a place just across the border in Oregon to set up teaching.

:D Wonder how much tax revenue this will cost Washington state?

<- Why there aren't any school shootings in Israel!
Teacher with long gun slung over her shoulder!!!

Well I see that "divide and conquer" is doing well here!

First off no one can file lawsuits against it till it goes into affect and that's a few days away.

I don't think it will go into effect until the beginning if Jan. IIRC, there's other laws that restrict when a new bill/initiative can go into effect. In this case, I'm hearing 60 days from being passed.

law suits can be filed ahead of the law beginning that is how you block them from being enforced. also the nra should have had a major contribution and helped fight the bill from the get go. i don't know if they did but they should have. is this just like the hurricane katrina where after it was all over and the guns were already confiscated the nra steps up. i am sure we will see it south of the border soon and have to fight it. we in turn are so close on the gmo bill passing they will move that north of the border for your voting displeasure again. it would give me great pleasure to see these votes by county instead of the population as a whole. one or two counties should not have the majority of the say so in either state.

Probably one of the very ideas of the writers. Why would those women need to learn to shoot if they can dial 911?
Duh!
This could,if it all works out right for the bill authors, stop the perpetuation of the shooting tradition in the US.
Heck they're teaching them guns are bad in school, now 'it may be illegal to pick one up' so why bother learning it?
Seems to me all the arguments we bring up are all the consequences that were hoped for

Would someone please explain, in precise terms, exactly what this law is/isn't?

And, AS IMPORTANTLY, which local, state, national organization(s) was/were involved in fighting this?

Seems it just "Bowled Over" any opposition.

I am very concerned that this is coming here to Oregon very soon, and it has to be stopped.

It is the beginning of the end. We had better stop it NOW!

I can't follow everything, and I am sure others are like me.

Who can provide the "Cliff Notes" version?

Thanks

Criminal and public safety background checks
also reduce illegal gun trafficking. Because Washington's current
background check requirements apply only to sales or transfers by
licensed firearms dealers, many guns are sold or transferred
without a criminal and public safety background check, allowing criminals and
dangerously mentally ill individuals to gain access to guns"

Man, it even starts out stupid
