Ya know....
Deciding to not try and steal someone's vehicle ...
Is just about the same as deciding to not get shot or shot at....:D
Andy
Yep, those crucial decisions can be life changing! 🤣

I tell my son that every time he tries to steal my fish sticks!

this is why gun ownership is not easy, I can totally understand person can be very angry over personal properties. because you worked hard and took care of it.

but again, as a gunowner you have to learn how to control yourself. yes, it's not easy but otherwise you can be in very bad situation over small mistake.

hope nothing serious happen to the owner.

Know what you are referring to but I always have the same thought when I hear about this basic same thing every time it happens…

What if your lively hood is tied to the vehicle being stolen?

Do you have $12000+ of tools in that rig that are not feasibly moved into safe storage Every night?

Do you have people or other means to get back and forth to work?

Will you loose your house and everything in it if you miss too much work?

I won't but many would and I wouldn't convict them if I were on the jury.

This IMO is a stupid law and one that should be changed, because the only people that win with this BS in place are car thieves.

Well, I certainly wouldn't chase after a suspect with my 2nd vehicle. It just sounds like a situation that was destined to get bad from the start.

Hopefully the vehicle owner will have some justifiable legal claim to self defense. If not, he's probably screwed. Hopefully the guy he shot fired at him first.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It must have been pretty serious if the guy was willing to put holes in his own vehicle.

This is why I tell people the legal training should come before the tactical training. But too many people insist they know the laws.

Based on the story the jeep owner is screwed.

I thought there was some kind of legal doctrine that allowed the use of force to defend your livelyhood but I cant remember what its called. IIRC its not used anymore today because we have homeowners or in this case vehicle theft insurance to cover our losses.

It's a ghetto law known as "don't eff with my shiznit, n--g----a."

All I'm saying is that if it was perfectly legal to shoot people who try to steal your stuff, there would be a lot less people trying to steal things in our society.

They also used to hang horse thieves. I'm betting that if we hung...hanged...I never know which it is...but I bet if we hung/hanged a couple of car thieves in the town square, that would at least lessen the number of car thefts a bit. :)

WOLVERINES!

I've been a believer that we as the good citizens should have a right to defend property as I see it as a part of the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A part of that are things you aquire lawfully, which should be protected as it can impact livelihoods, well being etc. This idea that some s**t stain can just take it away is absolute böölsheet. Criminals only stop when someone or something stops them hard and I mean hard like lethal force. Without the fear of consequences, the criminals are empowered.

I'm guessing the reason we cant shoot people for mere property theft is because too many people used that as an excuse to shoot people for mere trespassing or they didn't like.
