A 'bedside revolver' (or any style handgun) should be a gun you WOULD possibly carry, maybe not consistently but my point being is it should be something you ARE familiar and comfortable with, and shoot occasionally - and hopefully frequently.

I 'sleep' with a 1911 nearby and it is one of two that are either carried or shot frequently.

OK, I expect the 'obvious' jokes and wisecracks but I occasionally take guns to 'bed' with me to overlook them, cycle them (in the case of new semi autos) before going to sleep. AND no wife or 'significant other' to worry about!

I have a little table by my bedside, easy reach,l am loading this Taurus with 3 inch hi brass no. 4 shot shells.If anyone has shot one they know the power of these at close range.It will stop an intruder no prob.,might be a bit messy though!ha Revolvers dont jam!

4 shot would not be my choice but I dont know your exact layout. For my house bird shot would not do, I would go with number 4 buckshot.

I would advise that the 3" plastic shells might stick a bit when trying to eject them.
I've owned 2 different judge revolvers, and that was an issue I remembered.

I use a Taurus 856 for light pocket carry and it stays with me in the house (and short around town trips). It's been a very reliable.38 at the range and is comfortable enough to shoot one handed with defense ammo, although everyone in the house will have significant hearing loss if it's ever used.

Goes next to me at bedtime just in case I can't get to one of my 17-20 round simi auto 9mm which I would only have long enough to get to a 12ga and a rifle.

My wife has her guns and I got mine and we have our standard plan that has been set in stone for to long to remember if something goes bump in the night.

My GP100 stays in the safe cuz I don't want to injure someone 2-3 houses away…

My layout is close range 10ft x14 small bedroom.Maybe 4 buck would be better but I guarantee the intruder wont like 4 shot hi brass and at least l wont miss!This is a good heads up ,will shoot it at cardboard at 10 ft and survey the damage,thanks.Great forum!Oh and wet farts are illegal in Iowa so that wouldnt work.ha Thanks for the heads up on the 3 inch plastic shells,hope I dont have to reload.I have a S&W 357 loaded in bed dresser drawer.Its one of those platform beds with drawers underneath.

Better have some serious hearing protection on before firing that thing indoors. Better deaf than dead, I guess.

PS. If you don't hit 'em, you'll sure scare 'em to death.

Make sure you alternate hands every night with your 'wrist exercises' so you're able to get more than one shot off with that 87lb trigger.

While not the "ultimate" bed side home defense revolver....
I like it....
Loading would be :
158 grain Speer Gold Dot Hollow points....or a 158 grain semi wad cutter loading.

In times past...
When the largest caliber handgun I had was a Uberti 1860 Army copy...
I used it as home defense gun.
A .454 lead round ball moving out around 850 - 900 FPS....seemed to work .

Granted...
I know about percussion revolvers....and shot this one well and often.
I would not suggest that the average person pick a percussion revolver as a defensive firearm...
However you could do worse.
