Pawn shop find. Or , actually maybe not a find . $190 out the door. Thought I was getting some vintage ninja nostalgia, but I forgot how close I am to the base . Upon closer inspection,
it's looking like a fake .

They're faked a lot actually. Those same companies that make Frost knives at $2/unit can sell a cold steel fake on eBay for $200. That may be cheap to you, but $150 or so goes a long ways in China.

Here are couple photos of mine. I bought this back in 2000. If that makes a difference. I hope this helps. There is a distinctive line that follows the edge on both sides of the blade on mine. I tried to take a couple photos to show this. Let me know if You need any other pics. I paid $369.00 for this and I don't regret it. It's my SHTF slicer.
Thanks.

mine is the exact same as far as looks OP got a knock off... sorry

I love blades but heck I don't know one fake from another. If your knife is fake what should it have cost and would the store give you money back since they sold a fake?

Let's make some lemonade already.

I haven't got burned in quite a while, and this one is completely my fault.

I sincerely don't think the pawn guys looked that knife over, and I reckon they priced it by looking up completed web sales and auctions.

Tomorrow I'll throw an edge on my new knife like object( stolen from forged in fire) . It's going to be abused outside all summer or until catastrophic failure.

Can't take it back? If it were my shop and I unintentionally sold you a fake, I'd probably work something out to fix that. At least partial store-credit.

If you want something real from Japan I have a 400 year old Wakizashi for sale, verified from

https://japanesesword.com/ (granted I think this is their new page? it used to be https://www.yelp.com/biz_redir?url=http://www.japaneseartswords.com&cachebuster=1623708465&website_link_type=website&src_bizid=lyFMRRb7NtrayT2vG03Ocw&s=a99bd2ac58ab74ed8e87128d089c4c2be6b5d6fc2eb007e3db5728dbde75c65d) this is the link but it is dead...

The swordsmith (Kono-san) is at the Seattle center Japanese festival every year...
