The better example than Finland vs. Russia might be found in Iraq, where a lot of ordinary city folk decided to throw their lot in with their neighborhoods and clans rather than the central government. I see more and more Americans who refuse to identify with our Federal leadership, and are looking for alternatives like local currencies, localized food production, and an emphasis on community.

Who knows, maybe we can make Washington D.C. irrelevant. Imagine them trying to collect taxes from us yokels, and all we've got is corn and beans.

The more I look, the more I see this happening. Really the only things holding the nation together in a big way are the american dollar, and the large crony capitalist institutions (unions, multi-nationals, etc). In many ways, the US more resembles a large free-trade zone than it does a single homogenous country, however in many ways I think that's exactly what the founders intended. Interestingly, the feds are taking a "hands off" approach to the recreational use of marijuana in states that have approved it, yet despite this the intractability of US drug policy is going to make it incredibly difficult for anyone to collect taxes on it. That catch-22 may be the undoing of a passive fed, or the start of a trend towards a less active federal government and a return to dual federalism.

Hey, I’m just guessing here, and doing some speculating.
A U.S. Soil, Civil War will not be made up of, Rednecks on one side, and Portland Oregon Anarchists on the other.
It will be made up of Freedom loving individuals, both men of various faiths, and atheists, Gay & Straight, Libertarians, true Republicans, (not RINO's) Independents, Constitutional Loving, Legal Immigrants who have come from all nations who know tyranny all too well, and who have no desire to go back under such tyranny, OathKeepers, and their associates, Constitutionalists, Republican Constitutionalists, and the vast majority of the Silent Majority, most of the military who swore an oath to The Constitution, (not to any one President and his Cabinet, regardless of party affiliation) and those like-minded individuals.
And, on the other side?
Un, and ill prepared, traditionally loud mouthed "Progressives” (code word for Liberal/Socialists) and those who follow them, who when the fighting starts will shrivel in abject fear, and who will not be found out in the public, or in the battle, at least not for very long. Yes of course, there will be some who will fight.
We will be fighting for Liberty and Freedom, and the defending thereof.
They will be attempting to fight for an empty ideology.

While we are not given much of a choice in national elections, the local elections where we can make a difference are really important. Take a look at the Klamath County Commissioners as a good example. Local sheriffs and city councils are also of great importance. City of Portland is what it is, but all the little towns and counties control a lot more real estate.

We had one of those large choices here in our Mayoral election.

One of the candidates promised that her first act as Mayor would be to call a general, city-wide strike.

I'm not sure she understood the job description, and I'm not sure that such a "wide" choice does us any good at all.

The descendants of illegal immigrants babbling about legal immigrants is pretty funny.

Post of the month right there. And the funny thing is that every man in every one of those various camps and creeds you mentioned already knows, deep down, good god damn well how the thing will play out if it goes there. Which is of course why billions upon billions are spent at all angles to keep the majority fearful and dumbed down.

Add up the budgets of the department of Education, Hollywood/Pentagon liaison office and see where we're at in terms of billions.
