Everyone who is trying to sell an auto-knife can do so over state lines! Your auto is not considered a switchblade anymore. Even though this law was signed over a year ago many of you are not taking the time to research the laws... Many laws... Too many laws:paranoid:

Feel free and try to shoot this one down, but you better have good sources. I haven't found anything yet nor have my constituents.

A friend of a friend led me in the right direction about this amended law. I'm posting the link so if you want to read all 40 some pages, feel free.

The bill is: H.R. 2892; sec. 42 is what you are looking for.

    H. R. 2892—42
    ‘‘(C) to restrain competition; or
‘‘(D) to prevent or delay the release of information
that does not require protection in the interest of transportation
security, including basic scientific research information
not clearly related to transportation security.’’.
SEC. 562. Section 4 of the Act entitled ‘‘An Act to prohibit
the introduction, or manufacture for introduction, into interstate
commerce of switchblade knives, and for other purposes’’ (commonly
known as the Federal Switchblade Act) (15 U.S.C. 1244) is
    amended—
    (1) by striking ‘‘or’’ at the end of paragraph (3);
    (2) by striking the period at the end of paragraph (4)
    and inserting ‘‘; or’’ and
    (3) by adding at the end the following:
‘‘(5) a knife that contains a spring, detent, or other mechanism
designed to create a bias toward closure of the blade
and that requires exertion applied to the blade by hand, wrist,
or arm to overcome the bias toward closure to assist in opening
    the knife.’’.

    Have a nice day!

Of course, they're still illegal in WA state unless you're a LEO.

8 US Presidents have been NRA members. They are: Ulysses S. Grant,
Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Dwight D. Eisenhower,
John F. Kennedy, Richard M. Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George Bush.

80 MILLION gun owners didn't shoot anyone today, a few criminals did!!

No one wants a dangerous military style assault knife in the hands of potential killers. Switchblades are evil baby-seeking knives that can easily kill twice as many babies as a standard folder or even fixed blades.

    Here's the RCW

I have a couple Benchmade knives that if the pivot gets too loose they fall free, I have to tighten them up every once in a while or I have an illegal weapon.

Swiss army knives should be banned. Nobody needs a high-capacity knife with more than ten blades.:)

Lmao! You guys are great! Yes, unfortunately the autos are illegal in Washington and so are folding knives. That is my interpretation. Anyways, my rule of thumb has always been, "It's only illegal if you get caught". Good luck and remember, it's a loaded knife, so keep pointed in a safe direction!

My Benchmade's seem to always need the pivot tightened though, for some reason they always loosen up when clipped on.

I guess I'm dense but reading that I think it says that a knife that wants to CLOSE via a spring not OPEN via a spring. But then what do I know I only spent 14 years as a Custom Knifemaker and 3 as a member of the guild. Oh and I made autos and shipped them interstate. All you had to do is make sure the purchaser was in a place possession was legal and that the knife was in kit form while being shipped.

And where is the actual law so that a person could see how this ammendment changes it?
