Most guns are dumb.

We run around trying to get our hands on the one we desperately want. Then try to convince ourselves it fits into our lives.
Only to have it sit unused for years.
All of mine are smart....
Smart enough to use their guninine wiles on me....seductively calling out to me...
Or being all coy....and teasing me with a taste of what could be if only I were to buy 'em...

Showing off a bit figured butt....stock....the long lean lines of the barrel....
Or perhaps whispering of the benefits of a firm grip along their .....wait...what forum am I on...? :D

Dear penthouse......

Unless the cops removed the stock for the photo, that is a pistol not an SBR.

All I know is that they are easier to buy than a book, have more rights than women, widely available next to schools, and fire 60 clips of cop killer military grade magnum bullets per second.

Also cheaper than buying RAM

I saw several news reports on this, both on TV and online.
No where did I see the gun being called anything but a gun.
No rifle, pistol or SBR mentioned.

I would argue it's still not a rifle since it doesn't have a stock. If the receiver started life as a rifle, it should be a pistol illegally converted from a rifle.

An SBR needs a stock. No stock, no rifle regardless of barrel length.
A rifle can't legally be made into a pistol…. So if it started life as a REGISTERED rifle and has a barrel under 16" it is a SBR Accourding to the NFA. Stock or not.

Atleast that's how I have understood it to be. Not like it really matters. Criminals do criminal things.

What the lower is registered as is what dictates it.

Once a rifle. Always a rifle. The clothes you put on or take off doesn't change its gender.

Very true, and it just reinforces how stupid these pistol/SBR/rifle rules and designations are.
I have a legal SBR, but it doesn't look like one. Before it was a pistol. Now it's a short barreled rifle. It was just as deadly without, with a brace or with a stock.

Yup. That's how I understand it. I have a few SBRs as well. And they don't become a pistol the minute I pull off the stock or put on a brace. It's still a SBR. On the flip side I can throw a 16" upper on it and I no longer have to send out my permission slip to travel with it.

The laws are super convoluted by design. And the average gun owner has no idea what they are doing in regards to what's legal and what's not. Whether we like it or not.

But it can illegally be made into a pistol. That doesn't make it a rifle without a stock.
