What about a stripped lower off the internet that you build?
Most stripped lowers are not specified on the 4473, but the law is that if you build as a rifle it stays a rifle. If you build as a pistol then pistol rules apply. If you published a picture that includes a SN as a rifle then it's documented, otherwise nobody really knows.

NFA paperwork is not hard….. and now it's free.
I might NFA my new pistol into an SBR.

I did my 12" 6.5 Grendel free, as it was a pistol braced firearm, during that amnesty thingy. Hopefully the lawsuits succeed all the way up to SCOTUS but I ain't holding my breath and I am 100% expecting that Congress, should the anti2A get a majority ..will raise NFA tax during the next budget bill thing.

Yes, now is the time to do it.

Yes, now is the time to do it.
If one has the funds available to do so, yes. Otherwise, eh. We'll see. The only SBR I want to do that's decent, would be either an XM4 (14.5" A2 upper), or a semiauto clone of the USAF GUU-5 series, A1 without forward assist,14.5" pencil barrel, A1 style lower but that all costs pretty penny especially the A1 lower since everyone else offers M4/A4 lowers

This was my thinking.

Kind of like how all high speed chases are "up to 100 miles per hour" as it sounds scary.

Good luck at the black powder show. Hope you find your Hi-Point muzzle loader. ;)
"Hi-Point muzzle loader "....and Poof...just like that JedB was banned..... :D

Kidding here...had a b!tch of day at school....thank you for the much needed laugh....:D

I spose it depends on the letter of the law. That buffer tube is for a stock. While it doesn't have a stock on it in the pic, it's not a pistol or brace tube.
I don't ever remember that the tube on a pistol HAD to use the short stub. I can still put a brace on this one. But we probably shouldn't say it out loud, should we?

I have an AR pistol with a brace that I can shoulder. The fact that it isn't an actual stock sucks as it has no quick telescoping mechanism. But it beats have to go through the rigmarole to NFA it.

NFA paperwork is not hard….. and now it's free.
This is what I was going to say.
And, yes a brace works OK, but the cost to do an SBR is gone and it is pretty straightforward. You won't regret doing it.

If you put the stock on last it was built as a pistol first.

It shouldn't have been marked as anything other then "Other"
Cause FFLs never mess anything up…. Or ask.

Or it was purchased as a complete rifle originally.

But agree. They should all be marked as other allowing the buyer to decide which route they want to go without legal ramifications.
