Shooting in Souther Illinois, 5 dead, child rushed to hospital

<broken link removed> OF MANCHESTER, Ill - Five people are dead and one injured in a shooting in Manchester, Illinois, according to WLDS radio.

WLDS told NewsChannel 5 a suspect is in custody.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department said there were multiple people shot, including a child who was taken to a Springfield, Illinois hospital.

The pastor of Manchester Baptist Church told NewsChannel 5 that the murders happened inside a public housing complex on East Street Wednesday morning.

Multiple schools are on lockdown. The Jacksonville School District 117 secretary to Superintendent Steve Ptacek said the school is closed in response to a recent shootout with a suspect on Woodson Winchester Road. WLDS reports North Greene and Winchester schools are closed.

Innocent people being shot is always a tragedy regardless of where they live. There's irony in so many Chicago Obama (or "0" as I like to refer to him) supporters falling victim to gang violence when their "messiah" won't support prosecuting gangs or gun violence.
