Farting around GB tonight, I saw this:

1766026432684.png

Presently has a 18½" barrel, so it is Title I. Shortening further would be no whoop. Price is a little high and I'd prefer a full stock. But is kind of neat.

Used to carry a duty shotgun. If I was still was, and shooting it a lot it would be and M2-4.

18"-20" is barrel fine. A 14" is convenient but is the bubble gum worth the E ticket ride cost. A shockwave or a 'Super Shortie' is a broard brush and can be convenient but I general place a pistol gripped shotty in a door hinge and lock breaching tool category.

If Remington, I'd go 870 over an 1100 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. 1100's HAVE to be clean, a supply of "proper" O-rings and you could still have a problem. It's to the point I would be more worried about a Rem jamomatic functioning properly in a duty role I couldn't focus fully on what I needed to do. I've seen to many Special Needs 1100s.

The 390/1 is a relentless gun in clay games and mine generally goes 800+ between cleanings. Getting a little sluggish, add a few drops of Question is will it hold up to full snort slug and buck rounds.

The 1301 beats me like a drunk step father but they are reliable.

I like pistol grips particularly in tight quarters for stock on top of the shoulder movement but it's not a deal breaker. Nylon or HD stock that is not going to split or break. Side folders are covenant for storing in a confined space but need to be solid. I'm talking about butt stroking beat the snot out of it solid. Folding over the top is a non starter for me.

No experience with an SLP or the 930. Been a few decades since I've been on a square range shooting cases of buck n slug.

Man that would be GREAT. I have long loved those humpback's of Browning. It's a shame to chop one like that but DAMN that thing would be FUN to own!

@ilikegunspdx you are likely up on this: good, detachable magazine, self-loading shotguns on the eve of 2026? The one you had picture above, with wood furniture, and maybe different sight system, would be be neat. Fed from box magazine, rather than a tube, would allow for a barrel cut way back. Well, that and the Ninth Circle of Hell sounds less than pleasant. 🤭

I suggest if you can find a new lynx 12 for reasonable go for that. That's what's shown in the pic. But they've been out of production for a couple years so might be hard to find or expensive. If you get stuck and can't find one I have an extra NIB one. Best value of any gun I ever bought so I bought three of them. Price was ridiculously low for what it is imo. Please keep in mind any other ak shotgun that is not a lynx 12 I WON'T vouch for. Only failure I've heard of with a lynx 12 was a cracked bolt after 11,000 rounds. The bolt I think costed $59 at the time. The extra one I have is 3 gun model which has a 1913 rail on the dust cover. Normal model does not have optic rail. Photo of 3 gun model here.

If it were me I would research how short you can go without affecting reliability. I seem to recall 12 inch was fine but 8" was getting dicey. I may be remembering wrong though. Again do not use Saiga 12 or other models as "stand in" when doing research. They aren't as reliable (in any form) as the lynx 12.

AI stuff:

The SDS Imports Lynx 12 3 Gun is a popular ak-12 style 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun designed for 3 gun competition and known for its affordability and compatibility with many Saiga 12 parts, including magazines, forearms, and muzzle devices, featuring an enhanced AK safety, left-side charging handle, bolt hold-open, and a 4-position gas system for better ammo versatility, making it a budget-friendly alternative to now-unavailable Russian models.
Key Features
  • AK Platform: Based on the Saiga 12 design, offering familiarity for AK enthusiasts.
  • Saiga 12 Compatibility: Accepts Saiga 12 magazines (stick & drums), handguards, and muzzle devices, with some aftermarket AK furniture fitting easily.
  • Enhanced Controls: Features a larger, extended AK safety lever and a bolt hold-open button for easier operation.
  • Adjustable Gas System: A 4-position gas block (off, low, med, high) allows tuning for different ammo loads, improving reliability.
  • Barrel & Sights: Comes with a 19" chrome-lined barrel with a 3" chamber and is threaded for Saiga-style chokes, plus an integrated rail for optics.
  • Build: Features a hammer-forged bolt and trunnion for durability.

Thank you my friend @ilikegunspdx. I will look for Lynx. Roger on barrel length. I think SxS Lupara in present battery is 11", which is plenty short enough. Do you know if wood stocks exist for this pattern?

Parenthetically, I was just now looking on GB for this model, and I see a (postie) full-auto version. Consarn the Hughes Amendment! This blocks the wackiness from full bloom. 🤭

With 30 round drum full auto would be fun. See video below. However I've timed mine and shooting semi I've got between 295-305 rounds per minute consistently. That is the same rate of fire as the AA-12 full auto shotgun. I'll paste a couple video of rate of fire shooting semi below.

Takes standard ak wood furniture. You woudl have to check if front forearm needs modification or not. I would assume it does and prepare to dremel out areas that are too tight (if needed). I know stock is standard AK. I do know a company called kalashnicarver sold at one time a front forend specific for lynx 12. I put Vepyr wood stock on one of mine cuz stock sets cost $25. Vepyr is different than ak so I had to modify.

$25 Vepyr wood stock set
Full auto
Semi auto

Kalishnicarver commie Tommy furniture. Way, way, too expensive imo but could probably make your own by using standard ak stock and an add on tommy front grip. One of those was In a thread recently. Pistol grip may exist already as a Tommy gun style for reasonable price.

There is a special place in hell for those who Frankenstein vent rib A5's. I can see adding choke tubes, but otherwise… please don't.
Non vent rib upgrade to Purgatory? 🤭

(In all seriousness, generally I don't like modifying older guns. Unless they produced a gazillion of them and it has no historical provenance, but even then, meh. With this project idea, I'm hip to classic guns, but a new one would likely make more sense.)
There is a 990 Shockwave in the classifieds right now. I think that would make a great SBS.
Interesting. I'll have to look, but I'd think that would be 990 + $0 tax stamp + wood furniture + engraving = done. But I could be wrong, so will need to do some research on the wood furniture part of the equation.

Never heard of that outfit, but, wow, they make some cool looking stuff. :s0155:

Is the 990 compatible with, say, 940 stocks? I'm wondering, after stamp approved, how difficult the furniture part would be.

Damn one of those would be REALLY nice to have as and SBS.

Holy Space Pineapples! The intratubes is telling me standard 500/590 stocks will work on the 990! That would make an easy-peasy shorty for sure. I saw one in pawn shop in city last time was up there; will be headed back to lab next week, so will see if still has. If not, there are a number on Gunbroker. (Bonus; no eternal damnation for modifying a classic scattergun. 🤭)
