Having been outbid on a Deerfield on GB, I found myself there pondering if should increase. Then the woman wandered in, followed by little ones, I lost my train of thought, and found myself looking at shotguns while they talked incessently. In the fray, I saw this:

Looks like Kalashnikov, but shotgun, and has wood stocks. Seems neato and barrel could be cut way back after Form 1 approved. However, it is made by an outfit I never heard of (Panzer Arms) and buy it now is just south of five c-notes. I am skeptical.

Thoughts?

All the reviews I've seen of Turkish panzer arms shotguns have not been good in terms of reliability. I have no knowledge of this gun. I would go with lynx12 which is made by factory producing quality AKs over 50 years and is ultra reliable. I have 3 of them. Then just add ak wood furniture which is not expensive.

Out of curiosity, are these Turkish guns too?

They're labeled "Military Armament Corp", but AFAIK, the firm that made the Mac buzz-guns is long gone, so unlikely the same outfit.

As far as I know the MAC benelli clones are Turkish. There is a thread on them in shotgun section. Titled something like "Mac benelli clones" or similar.

there are saigas in the $700 range which appeal to me much more, being Russian made aks with a host of aftermarket support

Recent revolver antics coupled with an abortive carbine project took me away from this idea. Happened across this in my travels and found it neato. Someone SBSed an A5 and added pretty furniture.

Whilst waiting around on a background check for recently acquired carbine, I spied a Remington Model 11 in good shape for $350 at the establishment. I was reminded of my Whippet (whip it good) idea. For the moment, I left it on the rack. (That and I saw a pristine Star automatic in 9㎜, with original box, for five c-notes that was ever so tempting.)

Queries:

  • Any reason why this wouldn't be a good SBS candidate?
  • Is that price right, nuts, or something else? (Condition looked good to my eyes.)
  • Would my soul be consigned to the ninth circle of hell for engaging in the aforementioned Form 1 modification?
Thanks!

$350 is good price for a Model 11 in good shape.
Not a screaming deal...but a good , fair price.

Turning it into a Clyde Barrow Special...well now....
The owners of unmodified Model 11's ought to thank you..since you made theirs more collectible ....:D

Kidding here...it is your gun...and as long as there is no actual historic association or provenance or the like...
Why not...?

There was a LOT of them made so its not really "rare". Since it was a Browning design its got that very distinctive hump that I have always loved since I was a kid and got to see the first one. It would make one hell of a cool SBS. Price they were asking is "fair". If you do decide to do it the end product would be a TON of damn fun and look NICE.

Looks like Boyd's makes stocks for the Model 11 too. Consarn it, the wackiness wheels are spinning. And I promised myself post-summer that firearms antics would would be, at most, muted. That lasted for ten seconds ... OK, five, but who's counting. Fortunately the holidays are upon us (the first time I've ever said that), which means I'll avoid the city like the plague for the next couple months, so perhaps I'll avoid temptation. :p

Only thing I would say is that model 11 is not a particularly interesting donor (to my way of thinking anyway). But I don't know what you have in mind so the end product may be very interesting I dunno. I remember when I was a kid everyone said it kicked harder than other shotguns but I have no idea if this is true cuz I've never shot it.

Too bad they don't make these in 20 gauge or 12 gauge, only .410 that I know of. Sold in Canada but not USA.
