I just received this. The red bold is mine;

Thank you so much for your opinion on Senate Bill 941 and for being engaged in the legislative process. It is extremely important that Oregonians let their representatives know where they stand on the bills we're voting on.

There has been a lot of confusion about Senate Bill 941 and what it actually does. It expands our existing background system to include private sales such as those that take place on websites like Craigslist. I will be taking your opinions on this matter into consideration when I cast my vote on the bill.

Thank you again for your email. I hope you will continue to contact me about issues that are important to you.

Sincerely,

Phil Barnhart
State Representative
Central Lane and Linn Counties
District Office 541-607-9207

-----
I guess there won't any more Craigslist gun sales...there goes my fully automatic 50 cal w/fully automatic hi cap rocket launcher:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I agree with Barnhart that there has been a lot of confusion about this bill. There's obviously a lot of confusion in his office alone.

If you have watched the opening ceremonies for the House of Representatives you probably have noticed that the speakers are turned OFF during the Pledge of Allegiance. Why is this? Asking the Speaker of the House that question would be an excellent phone call to make 503-986-1200

HB2758

Rep. Jennifer Williamson stated this morning that confidentiality is very important when it comes to our medical information - and the medical information of young adults and children.

Confidentiality plays an important part in life -

not just in our medical information.

The assumptions the Democrats make regarding what people will or will not do is simply amazing - in fact it leaves me awestruck. They assume you will not go to the doctor because you may get a letter in the mail regarding test results or an explanation of benefits (EOB).

I believe this bill addresses abortion for underage persons - but it is about more than abortions. What about the child who takes a bad fall during sporting activities. The parents and the coach can be excluded from the medical decision -

I am so sick of the drama on the floor - the overplaying on the information presented - and oh my when they disagree with a minority report they go all out. Williamson knows what is best for your child - again - SHE KNOWS WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR CHILD!.

The party in charge must go home at night and suffer from complete conflict.

Yes - you as a parent can be involved in the assessment of your students in their education;

No - you may not be involved in health choices your child makes regarding their physical being.

No - you cannot get a tan in a tanning booth if you are under the age of 18 even WITH your parent's consent - but

Yes - you can go to the doctor and request treatment and your parents (whose insurance is covering the treatment) without your parents ever being notified as to WHAT the child was treated for. No - you cannot send an aspirin to school with a child but that same child can go to the doctor and you will get a bill - but not know what the visit was for.

The majority party seems to think that young people would not go to the doctor because the EOB (Explanation of Benefits) gets mailed to the primary insurance carrier. Really - so now our young people are stupid!

Statements on the House Floor indicated this legislation is to help protect young people who may be in an abusive situation. Those individuals already have the right to ask that their information not be sent out other than to parties the abused individual confirms. Federal law protects individuals in abusive situations. No circumstances under federal law where a victim of abuse requests will the EOB be mailed without approval of the abused individual.

This bill is not about protecting individuals from abuse - they are already protected by Federal law. This bill is about allowing medical treatment to minors without parental consent - up to an including abortions. They claim this bill helps protect the privacy of a young adult - be the medical attention minor or serious.

As a parent are you willing to pay a bill that arrives at your home without an explanation - this type of legislation wastes time, money and truly just plain lacks common sense.

One more chip at the structure - one more "let me take care of you because you are not capable of doing it yourself" - one more move toward socialism.

SB 941

We have received more than 4000 emails and over 300 phone calls in the office regarding the extended background check bill SB 941. Of those emails - about .01% or 40 of the emails are asking for a YES vote - and of the phone calls to date there have been five asking for a Yes vote. My position is well known on SB 941 - I am a No vote and will remain that way throughout the process.

SB941 will be on the House Floor for a vote of the House on Monday, May 4. At present the House is set to convene at 11:00 on Monday. Please tune in if you are interested in watching - it should be a great show! You can go here: Live Feed of House Session And watch the proceedings.

Just observing - do you watch the Floor Sessions?

Dear Engaged Citizen,

The Oregon Senate has unfortunately passed Senate Bill 941 despite staunch Republican opposition. The passage of this bill can make criminals out of law-abiding firearm owners Oregon. The Senate Republican Caucus put up the best fight we could in urging the majority party members to oppose this unnecessary burden and infringement of the second amendment.

So, I was a little confused by this... At first I thought you were saying that SB941 passed and was going to be law, but then I read the link you provided above:

https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Measures/Overview/SB941

And the current status reads:
"Current Location: House Desk - PM Consideration of Committee and Minority Reports"

With the last couple items being:
4/22 - Public heard held
4/23 - Work Session held
4/29 - Recommendation: Do pass
4/29 - Minority Recommendation: Do pass with amendments and be printed B-Engrossed.

So, then I re-read what you wrote and noticed it set "The Oregon Senate has unfortunately passed..." So, then I was thinking that maybe this is something that was written to you a couple weeks ago, but the bill is still sitting in the House and still hasn't fully passed yet. Am I reading that right? We still have hope, right? Also, anyone know what that "Minority Recommendation" means?

The bill has passed the senate. It's already been in committee in the house and been passed on to the house floor for a vote, which is currently scheduled for Monday. If it passes on Monday, it simply has to go to the Governor to be signed, and once she does that, it's done - law.

Any chance to stop it now has to happen between today and Monday, and there are very few opportunities in the House to do that - the Democrat majority makes it fairly certain it will pass unless a good number of Democrats decide to vote against their party - not highly likely.

The minority recommendation would be a proposal by the Republican minority in a last ditch attempt to get some adjustments via amendments to the bill. Similar amendments were attempted in the Senate, only to be dismissed.

It looks like the House vote is now scheduled for Monday, May 4th. This weekend may well be the last weekend to privately buy and sell firearms in Oregon without a background check.

The legislature has designated this as being emergency legislation. And that means it become effective as soon as the Governor signs it. Hard to see that not happening next week.

This battle is now lost. We need to instead be worry about fighting SB525 , which greatly expands the definition of domestic violence, and allows for GUN CONFISCATION without being convicted of any crime at all. This bill is a serious erosion of gun rights. Under current Federal gun control guidelines, this prohibition only currently extends to people that you live with, had a child with, or were once married to you:

https://www.atf.gov/files/publications/download/i/atf-i-3310-2.pdf

Under this new Oregon legislation, any family relative, even people that live no where near you, will be able to get all of your guns confiscated if they are able to successfully get a restraining order against you.

The law even applies to your in-laws. And how many people have gotten into disputes with their in-laws?

I can see a day coming when any sort of restraining order involving anyone will be enough to justify confiscating all of your guns, despite not having been convicted of any crime at all.

This bill is coming up for a vote in the Senate soon.

I won't concede a loss on SB 941 until it's signed into law by the non-elected Governor herself. Until then, there is a chance to stop it, even if it's ridiculously remote. With several recalls already underway and at least 2-3 more about to get started, these folks are going to start getting a message that we won't take this crap lying down. It may just convince enough reps to change their vote and stop if from passing the house.

As for the next bill, I agree, it's an issue that needs to be addressed. But if we somehow manage to stop 941, I would expect that same pressure will cause them to think twice about 945 and 525. We'll see very soon.

I dont agree that we should give up on 941 right now....

But I do agree we shouldnt let 525 pass without a fight either. That law is just as bad as registration. Loosing your constitutional right without a conviction is a huge infringement. And good luck getting your guns back after things cool down....

Even if we lose this battle, remember it's a war. Keep up the pressure on each and every one until the bitter end. By not giving up, even when it's clear they will win, it let's them know we are in it until the end and they will have to fight us every single step of the way.

Get mad, stay mad, let them know, and stay mad through the next several election cycles. Use the money for the guns they won't let you buy to get them elected out of office. Think of it as a whole different type of shooting - shooting down the political careers of people who threaten your freedom.

The Capitol rumor mill is in overdrive, and while it's true that Salem is the place where truth goes to take a vacation, one thing is certain, the fight to stop universal gun owner registration is far from over.

As we told you, it looked like SB 941, the gun owner harassment act of 2015, might be on the House Floor as early as today. While things can change at lightning speed when gun grabbers want to bend the rules, as of right this minute the bill is not even scheduled for a "Second Reading" which usually happens the day before it's voted on. What does this mean for us?

It can only mean one thing. They don't yet have the votes to ram it through. As you know, this bill has been fast tracked from the beginning. Bypassing all normal scheduling, the anti-rights zealots have done all they can to race this bill forward. Now it looks like it might be as late as Monday before it is voted on. It could even be later.
This means that your tireless efforts are having an effect and some Democrats are having second thoughts about their career futures should they vote for this deranged attack on your rights.

To be sure, there are plenty who continue to parrot the mindless lies about "dangerous loopholes" and "internet gun trafficking" even when they know what they are saying is false. Michael Bloomberg continues to throw vast amounts of money on a media onslaught against liberty, but... if <broken link removed> had this nailed down, they would have voted on it already.

That's why now is the time to turn up the heat. If you've been working hard at contacting legislators, we are going to ask you to do it again. If you've never made your voice heard, now is the time to do it.

As we told you on Monday, there are a handful of Democrats who we think need to hear from you now.

We've listed them below but want to add one more to our previous list. Please also contact Rep. Paul Evans. His phone number is 503-986-1420, email [email protected]

Evans is no friend of gun owners. His rant in the hard left blog "Blue Oregon" shows just how extreme he is. In it, he calls for registration of "automatic weapons," (which he defines as "hand guns as well as rifles,") with the county sheriffs.

Aside from how much he demonstrates his ignorance of firearms and current law, he also calls for amending the US Constitution to redefine the Second Amendment. However, we have reason to believe Evans would like to portray himself as pro-gun. So he's wavering. Please contact Evans, and the legislators below, with a message that your rights are not negotiable. Sample text follows after the contact info for the other House Reps who need to hear from you.
