I was in xmas valley 2 weekends ago and am headed back over Thursday night. Rat hunting was slow in the morning but picked up as the sun poked out.
Coyote hunting on the other hand has been HOT!!!

Not sure it helps, but we saw a lot of sage rats running around here in Idaho last week when we were out riding in the desert. The hawks are returning too, so I'd say it's getting close to the season.

A friend called me from Bonanza. He said it's weather dependent. If the sun is out, so are the rats. Make sure you pick a sunny day.
