Portland and the State of Oregon are in trouble.
These are the ignorant people we put in positions of decision making.

This has to change.
Leaders are dumb. Voters are dumb enough to keep voting the same people in over and over. Are they hurting enough to actually change things?

Edit. Smart, responsible leaders have better things to do than run for public offices ;)

Many voters choose leader who promise them free benefits. Large portions of voters lack basic civic knowledge and are vulnerable to simple narrative and emotional manipulation.

Many politicians on the other hand are unqualified with no experience in governance, management or public administration. For many the only career experience is politics. They haven't held any substantial jobs outside politics.

And I agree, smart, responsible leader do have better things to do than run for public office.

The vast majority of folks on the left gravitating toward gun ownership aren't doing so to "defend their rights" as in using violence to advance policy objectives. They're mostly brown folks or sexual minorities afraid of being personally targeted for violence by bigots and who are gravitating toward firearms ownership for self-defense purposes. The vast majority of mass shootings that are not just crime related gang violence or murders of others based on personal beefs or for financial gain, are committed by straight white guys.
A LOT of people who were and even still are, anti me owning a gun, have taken to wanting a gun. One "upside" to this is a LOT of them are in for the shock of their life when they actually go to buy a legally owned gun. They suddenly find out the people they support and listen too have been lying to them. It is great when they get to see what hoops they have to jump through to buy, and more hoops in many states if they wish to carry.
As for "mass shootings" this is another great example of "stats". Stats can be made to say anything you wish them to say. It is rolling on the floor laughable that "mass shooting" are being done by "strait white guys". To get this answer someone has to really play with stats and anyone who falls for this simply wants that to be true. So they don't bother to read how that answer if come to as it would not be the answer they want. One great example is Chitown. They have the "correct" number of shooting to qualify as "mass shootings" on a weekly basis. Everyone knows who there is doing this and why those in power ignore it. The facts are VERY inconvenient. These shooting are also done by a VERY small sliver of the population there. If they locked them up for good the "mass shootings" would all but come to an end. Those in charge don't want them to stop. So they blame guns, strait white males, racists, and a long list of other red herrings. Then tell me the real problem is I have guns.

while I AGREE with the basics of gun rights being for everyone it needs to be recognized a LOT of former 'anti' gun owners are now accepting gun ownership as a way to 'defend' their 'lifestyles', beliefs etc. and NOT what might be as simply a case of 'self defense.

Some of 'these' people believe they can use weapons simply to 'support' their causes, beliefs and lifestyles.

This is a VERY dangerous position they are taking
I'm not disagreeing with you on that. But I just want to note that that attitude isn't any different from the messaging that's been put out for years by militant libertarians and, more recently, Trump supporters and others on the extreme right.

The actual point, here, I think, is that anytime someone talks about "the rise in trans mass shootings", or "mass shootings are overwhelmingly committed by straight white guys", or whatever, one of three things is going on:
  1. They read something stupid somewhere and believed it without sufficient skepticism;
  2. They're disingenuously trying to link certain inherent traits with a heinous crime, as if to imply that the person with that trait committed that crime because of it; or
  3. They're trying to illustrate that "the rise in trans mass shootings" (for example) is a nonsense line of argument by pointing out that other, far more widespread trait of such criminals are in play, yet no one rises an eyebrow at those.
People aren't committing mass shootings because they're straight, or because they're trans, or because they're white. The assertions of those who sincerely argue that they are are not to be trusted, imo.

A full 100% of mass killings have been done by human beings, so far.

And if more civilians were armed there it's highly likely that it would be a safer place.
I agree, safer, but still never safe, because one thing will never change, as if it was possible to remove all presents of guns from the face of the earth, it would not remove the reason guns are needed for protections. Regardless of gun or brand, In my opine, a truth still stands: "God created men, Col. Colt made them equal," at least as much as possible.
