Question on first time Oregon concealed Weapons permit.

So.............. Reading through the requirements to get a Concealed weapons permit, I'm seeing a lot on this proof of Proficiency crap. (Sorry I'm of the crowd the believes the second amendment is our permit)..., But I've seen that. So my question is how does one go about getting that? I've also seen where our hunting education we had to take as kids was good enough? From what I've seen online any classes are no where's near me, and I'd have to drive 100 miles or so to even get into one, so are there other ways to get this, or no? OR is this even true, and it's just one of the things you need.
Like ID and Drivers license and pass the background crap would be good enough or...?

A lot of gun stores or mil surp stores will hold them also.

What was told to me is that there HAS to be something on the certificate that says Pistol training on it - so a hunters Ed course wouldn't help.

Aye, MCSO does it a little different than CCSO. I am going to assume these little variances are true for all county's.

Maryland State Police used to have a FREE online pistol safety course. I took it, printed the certificate, signed it myself, and it was accepted as valid for the Oregon CPL (Washington County Sheriff). Now that I try to find the link for it, it appears that Maryland has gone to instructor-led training required so I can't find the online course.

There are states which require Fire Arms Proficiency ie Can you hit a target.

Having a non-specific course does not strike me as some minimal standard.
"Can they fog a mirror?" and, Not on the prohibited list, then here you go.



Not that I would advocated this from the State, But as citizens we need to be responsible - that means not just hoping but by taking action to get training in the legal requirements and in the physical requirements.

Every county is different.

I'm a first time applicant.

Marion county is mailed 45 days after your appointment. I'm hoping it's not business days, but am pretty sure it is...

I lucked out and could get an aplication appointment pretty quick. I think it was about a week & a half out from when I took my class. No idea how far out they are scheduling apointments now.

Supposedly much smoother for renewals.

You will have the permit 45 days from your application appointment. In Marion County they are very good about it.

If handgun safety was part of your hunter safety class then that will be enough to get your license.
