I picked a used ATI/Combat Exchange monte carlo stock real cheap. I think I found out why. It looks like someone has milled out a 1/4" of the stock material behind the area where the receiver would butt up.

Can someone tell my why anyone would do this? Does it fit another model of SKS? If so, please help me identify it. I'm sure someone could get better use of this.

If there is no other reason for doing this (other than stupidity - which I've seen a lot of this year), what would be the best way to fix this so that it blends in well. I don't believe it will cause any functional problems. Just looks dumb with a gap behind the receiver.

Thanks,
Andy

Here are links to the pictures. I've already taken the rifle out of the stock.

Found the answer at sksboards. That area is milled out to fit a tech-sights peep sight, which I was going to do anyway. Looks like I lucked out!!
