Purchasing Private Guns - Need help on information

Hello, So I am wanting to buy a Hand gun privately from someone this weekend, and with the new law in effect, I thought that you would have to transfer names on the firearms through a FFL? The guy I'm buying from is stating that all that is needed is a background check. Some help on what exactly is needed to be done would be greatly appreciated!

ORS hasn't been updated to reflect the law change and when I asked my Senator (Gelser) about a simple hunting season loan I was eventually given this link as one of the answers to my questions;
