I don't know if Nodak would bother, probably not enough of a market for it. Unlike the garage folks, Colt machined the rail to the upper so it never had a carry handle. The rear sight was a folding one, similar concept to the BUIS we have now.

Basically yes... but their innovation has pushed the industry.
To give Kel-Tec some credit, when you don't get a lemon its something that's worth it. Though, um, I'm not getting their .308 bullpup... Not sure I'd like the idea of a .308 round being fired right next to my face in a Kel-Tec. o_O

DPMS made this monstrosity, albeit long after the M4... don't know why it didn't catch on:p FAE9573B-1E8B-443E-8DFC-A35375BED908.jpeg

Obviously cause it wasn't marked Colt. If it was Colt they'd sell.

Honestly, its surprising the stuff you see when you look up what Colt experimented on. Such as the piston operated AR (Colt 703), that didn't catch on because Colt didn't think the benefits of a piston was worth the cost and complexity (in machining mind you) of the system. When you think about it, piston ARs are not new at all. :p

Colt lost the SCAR bid to FN(obviously) and for good reason..
Their entree was this.. 28D803E1-CF00-4236-B5D8-11AA85D439AA.jpeg
I built my own version same ARMS #58 rail, but with a Superlitive Arms Piston system... Ida won for sure! D3F053E2-9490-447B-A0DC-AFB545EC0166.jpeg

I'll come up with something interesting to do with this stuff...

I have a hard time using NOS parts... somebody kept them in their packages for the last 35+ years.. I don't want to be the one to "deflower" them:confused:

keep the retro parts, get the surplus parts/commercial parts from PSA sales or other sales? ;) Do they even sell carbine gassed 10.5" .300blk barrels with the triangle FSB attached???

the main issue with doing a XM177e1 clone would be one of the 3 things; a slickside lower with 3rd burst or full auto (M16 or M4 lower), a 4.2" moderator that is regulated by ATF as a suppressor.... and the fact it would be a Form 1 build no matter what parts you use; if the barrel is under 16".

a CAR15 Sporter clone with standard HB 16" carbine barrel probably would be easier to do...and with either of the scope or the funky scope mount, you could do a LAPD look...maybe even a Lebanon War era IDF look with the sling wrapped on the FSB itself

Keep in mind the scope's BDC is set for 55 gr out of a 20" barrel. Might as well go retro A1 sniper.

Better than the wacky scope mount, which won't be fun if it doesn't sit flush with the handguard.
