For me it is more than one thing. I have guns because I use them, or some of them actually. I have a few guns I practice with and hope I die a peaceful death without ever having to use one in the way it was intended. If it wasn't partly a hobby the safe would be nearly empty. I love mechanical things and get sucked in by the uniqueness of different guns.I really appreciate hearing it's not just a hobby for you. You put into words some of the feelings creeping up in me as I learn, own, and shoot firearms. I do feel a sense of freedom and connection to something historical.
I was a little worried about using "hobby" to describe participating in firearms because it is so much more and so different to everyone.
Some of my guns are tools and have specific uses. Others are where the "hobby" part takes over.
