Prototype AR upper WTF is this?

Every once in a while you come across something so strange that it defies explanation...
We were told it is some sort of prototype from Olympic Arms, but for what? Any Ideas?
My guess is maybe was meant so have some sort of suppressor device attached. There Barrel is solid inside some weird steel sleeve. Very heavy. It's early because it's not even a typical M4 upper... Pre/early pic rail? Interesting to say the least!

They did make a lot of crap, but they were very innovative.. and not all bad. stuff like this from their R&D is pretty cool if you ask me...

Kid I got it from did put it on a pistol lower and ran a couple mags through it... He said it shot great.
It is a 5.56 chamber

There's a thought... who knows what they had threaded on the end of this thing.
I know a guy that knows a guy that worked at Oly... he took some pics and sent them to him to try to seee if he recognized it or had any clue if it is even from Olympic.

Was a slow day at the gunshow yesterday, so after we got it... it got passed around to all the other vendors to try to make sense of it, and they all said the same thing too...

If it had a stubby handguard on it it'd look a lot like a PSA Marauder.

Looks like it needs a jacket to be liquid cooled. Could have been a test barrel for doing high round count testing on BCG's and Uppers.
