Thanks for posting this...interesting information.

I sure wish more folks owned firearms , for reasons other than protection ( 72% )
And that 61% who think that it is too easy to legally get a gun is also troubling.

Why polls fail.
Many liberals would lie about owning a gun (embarrassment)
Many conservatives would lie about owning a gun (MYOFB)
Many (most) criminals would lie about owning a gun (shocker, eh?)

So, what insightful conclusion can be drawn from a poll that asks a question so many folks would lie about, especially when the sample size is less than 0.0016% of the nation's population?

If a person murders four people with a 2x4, it's counted as a mass murder and is included in these statistics. If someone murders three people and then commits suicide, is that counted?

  • These killings can be perpetrated with knives or other weapons, but most are mass shootings.

Sampling in quantitative research always depends on a small sliver of a population. If it passes significance tests, it means something.

And a large chunk of those would hand over their firearms if ordered.

2015 Poll: 90% of gun owners on NWFA would either not answer a telephone survey or tell them they don't own guns even though they do.

The national response rate was about 9% in 2015.

GSS and Pew had responses closer to 25% and 30% among registered Democrats and Republicans.
