Don't forget that the local government will try to be "helpful" by closing off alternate routes and trying to channel everyone into a queue. Find out what the "plan" is for an emergency in your area from the emergency preparedness commanders.

You need to take the 5-10 easiest ways out and throw them out cause those are the routes EVERYONE will be trying to use making them a parking lot and no good for you. You need to pick the 5-10 hardest back road not shown on a gas station map routes and put them into your main routes.

You will burn more fuel then you think either being stuck in traffic or taking alt routes.

The only real way to get out safe and easy is get out EARLY. There is no other quick easy option and the simple proof of that happens everyday for you at rush hour. Now make that 10x worse, what would you do?
