A wildfire burning in steep terrain and dense forests in the Goat Rocks Wilderness.

Currently 150 acres

On August 9, the Goat Rocks fire was started by a lightning strike in the Goat Rocks wilderness area in some very steep terrain. The fire was knocked down initially by fire crews but could not be completely lined due to very steep and dangerous terrain that were un workable by personnel. The fire laid down and smoldered but picked back up after several weeks of drying. The fire picked up in September after several days of red flag warnings, and is continuing to grow. Fire crews are working to suppress the fire and protect lives, infrastructure, and natural resources.

Currently as of 2:00 PM on 9/9/2022 there is an evacuation notice for the following locations:

  • Level 3 - Go! Leave Immediately for High Valley, Timberline, and Goat Rock Communities.
  • Level 2 - Set! Moments notice. Immediate Threat for Downtown Packwood areas.
Evacuation check-in location at White Pass School.
