Words and phrases matter.

How you use language to spin your agenda , sell your idea or peddle a perception , can matter more than even the definitions of the chosen words themselves.

The old saying :
The pen is mightier than the sword , is very true , with those who wish to do away with the 2nd Amendment.

Some points aimed at the author:

They cast their fight against that in terms of liberty. "It was freedom-loving Americans versus the gun grabbers," he said.

With good reason.

Restrictions? Unduly negative, especially for an opinion columnist with more license to use the language of his choice.

Unconstitutional restrictions are, by definition, negative. No matter how one spins their tyrannical nonsense.

"Safety" is accurate but bland, so I'm in the market for a snazzier vocabulary. All suggestions welcome.

No, it is is not even remotely accurate or honest. It is a deliberate attempt to obfuscate the real agenda, which "control" adequately covers. As to a suggestion, you're cordially invited to engage in self-fornication, you disingenuous yutz.

The mentality is astounding. It could be summed up with: "We know what we are advocating is a bunch of restrictive, draconian BS. And lots of Americans aren't hip to having their rights trampled. Should we step back and reevaluate our position? No way! Just obfuscate and outright lie about our true agenda."

Rhetoric is a key component of any information operations campaign. Instead of 'gun control,' the gun-grabbers are using terms like 'common sense reform,' and linking their treacherous proposals to health and safety. That way, if you oppose their legislation you have to start by explaining why you are against health and public safety.

Keep calling them out, keep sharing information, and never, ever give up the fight. The whole Constitution is under constant attack, with particular emphasis on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Amendments. If you read them through and think about what's happening in our country today, it becomes apparent that these three amendments are like mutually defensible pieces of terrain. Keep supporting, keep defending!

All of that can be summed up in a mere four syllables...

I consider a vote to be far more dangerous than a gun.

Oh, I've got some suggestions all right.

Have any of you read the COMMENTS to that article? Scary!

It isn't scary, it is revealing.

If indeed the comments have not been individually selected by the NYT staff, they show how bizarre is the thinking of east-coast socialists. If they have been selected, it shows how bizarre is the thinking of the NYT - the widest-read paper in the USA.

No matter what, the political leaders, if not the majority of residents of New York City, and all major metro areas in the USA, are infested with diseased minds bent on the destruction of America's freedom.

They should be treated as rattlesnakes and cockroaches.

It's clearly an EPIDEMIC OF GUN VIOLENCE/NATIONAL HEALTH CRISIS/VIRUS.

Ooops.....nothing is a "crisis" with Biden at the helm (until he approves with the narrative). But, using such "medical terms" is useful in this time of the CCP Virus. It helps the LEFT to come up with even more restrictions on Americans. Note that this was put out in Dec. 2020.
