Communists/Socialists support gun ownership when its their side who has them. Look at Venezuela, the government disarmed the population. then when everything went south, the government rearmed their supporters.
A lot of factions, left and right, have this viewpoint; they want to be the only ones to have firearms.

The people "in power" know full well what socialism means and how it works. They are expecting to be the few at the top with lots of power over the peons.
The brain dead who vote for it do it because they have never been taught what it leads to, or they fall for the "we will do it right" line. It sounds great, everyone gets everything, free. Sadly it looks like the only way to wake people up is to let them have what they asked for. Of course then it's too late when they see what they get.

That country is a small example of how it always works. Lots of people are going hungry but, a lot of people there still live VERY well. I used to work with two guys - one was from Russia and he loved the USA. The other was from Poland and he felt that the USA should be more like Poland used to be before they broke away form the USSR

Socialism sounds really great on paper. Free stuff for everyone forever.

Leftist movements are all about class struggle. They conveniently forget that in Western Civilization you have the freedom and opportunity to better yourself if you desire. Economic classes aren't fixed. Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon all started in garages. If your only skill is to flip burgers and you don't want to better yourself then you only deserve to get what the market will pay. If you want better you have to do something to make it happen, but we have a couple of generations now that have been taoght that they are owed something by "the rich".
The current pandering by politicians is to raise minimum wage to $15. Historically a raise in minimum wage, due to the law of supply and demand, is that inflation eats up the spending power advantage in less than a year. Raising the minimum wage from $7.50 to $15.00 (round numbers) will cause a $1 item to cost $2 by the end of the first year.
The rest of us, though, who took chances and made sacrifices still get to pay those inflated prices and our earnings will not double. It's effectively a pay cut and a punishment for those of us who worked hard to get ahead. But at least a few politicians got votes so they can continue their wrecking ball attacks on our freedoms in order to increase their control and power over the rest of us,
