"We support gun ownership for everyone left , right and center. The Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, whatever your political persuasion."

That I can agree with ...

As for the rest of just what the Socialist Rifle Association stands for , says , does , even its logo and posters...No not for me.
Communism is not the new cool , for this guy.

Far too many people have been murdered , oppressed , and enslaved under that system / style of 'Socialism" for me to support a group that espouses those ideas and beliefs

Socialism is simply a populist movement to get people to cede all their power to Tyrants. It's amazing to me that you can convince people who live better than the wealthiest for 99.9% of human history that they are being abused by the rich. Envy is the wrecking ball of our society.

I am reminded of a story I read about Tenzing Norgay many years ago. Tenzing was one of the first two men to climb Mt. Everest. After he accomplished the feat he and Edmund Hillary were taken on a world tour. In New York City they were driven through an area we would consider as slums. The driver apologized for the conditions. Tenzing was confused stating that he didn't see any poor people.

When I was 20 I went to Nepal to hike, or as they call it trekking. I saw first hand how people lived in both Kathmandu but also in small villages high in the Himalaya. I understood what Tenzing meant. People had very little materially to compare to what we in the west take for granted. Even though the villagers in the rural areas had difficult lives of labor and not much to show for it they were happy and content. When I returned to the US I saw things I had seen before in a much different light and appreciated many things I had taken for granted.

It really gets under my skin when people demand more and then expect others to provide it "for free". They ignorantly don't realize they are useful idiots allowing others to take their rights away. Good on the NSSF to not helping to legitimize socialism and its inherent threat to all our freedoms and not just our right to defend ourselves.

The article starts out great. I too agree there are far too many gun laws and believe the 2nd is a right. After that they just fall off the cliff. Surely they have to know how they sound? The people they are supporting very often do not want "common folk" to be able to own a gun. Socialism has never worked, and always ends up being enforced at gun point. Which means the common folk of course can not be allowed to have guns. Harder to force them to be enslaved by people with guns if they also have guns.

That's an interesting point there brother, when I lived in the South (age 0-18) I saw a similar thing. Most people were happy living their lives the best way they could, for the most part.
Others were upset that others had more than they did. These people I surmised had no self motivation and wanted what others had achieved but for free.:s0037:

Good points.

I often hear from people supporting social programs "I don't have a problem paying taxes to help other people" as 'virtue signaling' and as if that is charity.

I don't have problem helping people - I often do - several times I have sent money to people who were struggling. I helped a friend pay his rent and tuition while he was in a hospital, unable to pay himself.

What I have a problem with is:

1) Being forced to give money to other people for their life expenses. That isn't charity, it is theft. Charity is never mandatory or forced.

The quality of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

2) Forcing other people to give money. This is the second biggest issue I have with socialism; I won't and can't support using the power of the vote and government to force others to give money to someone else via taxes/etc. - that makes me an accomplice to the theft (legal or not, it is still theft).

3) My number one issue is people telling me I somehow have an obligation to help others. I don't. I simply do not have any obligation to anyone else just because I exist. And yet people keep trying to tell me that I do. An obligation is something that you voluntarily and actively, consciously and overtly enter into. It is not a passive agreement inherent to your existence as a human. You must actively agree - it you don't agree, there is no obligation.

I take my responsibilities seriously. I am responsible for my own obligations and debts. I have never failed to repay any kind of debt. I always try to make good on other obligations to people.

In discussions where I make these assertions, almost without fail, someone makes the assertion that I am selfish and without compassion. As if resisting theft and force is somehow a selfish act. My actions (helping other people, including risking my life a number of times in the USCG) seem to be irrelevant in this regard compared to my words. They think that forcing other people is them being selfless and generous, as is them paying taxes.

This was my ex-wife.

Mixed in with a bunch of other issues (blaming other people for her problems, never taking responsibility for herself), she felt that everyone owed her something. She never wanted to work for what she got - always wanted to lay back and just enjoy what she felt was owed to her. Last I heard of her she had just gotten out of jail and was probably homeless again. I feel sorry for her, but I no longer feel responsible for her.

I have heard that a lot, especially with service wives. I was an army brat growing up with the friends and families of fellow soldiers that my parents associated with.
I was young so the only explanation I got when the families separated was "they just didn't get along".
Glad to hear people move on with their lives & learn from those situations.:)

Good boot-out.
Socialism has nothing to do with the expressed liberties and civil rights were are guaranteed as espoused in our Bill of Rights and the Constitution (Federal and State).

The end goal of Socialism is Communism. Simply put, it is a cancer, and needs to be cut from the core that is the Societal makeup of the American way of life.

Democrats want this system to replace Capitalism and the way we live. Listen to what the New Left is saying when they run their pie-holes in front of a microphone....there are too many examples out there for you to not see what they are advocating.

You had best be prepared for the storm, for it is coming.

The question for some is whether we run out of money and people willing to keep earning it by being productive, or whether we run out of natural resources first.
