I can drive on that side of the road, but I don't think I'd be able to shift with my left hand, so I've only rented automatics when I've been to the old country as my Dad would call it.

Well, I learned to drive very early on, with both right-hand and left-hand drive vehicles - all manual gearshifts. I never got to drive an automatic until I was in BRIXMIS in the early 80's, where our Opel Senators were automatic AND four-wheel drive, too.

Nice.
Have you ever met a Yank coming from the other direction ?

Sadly, that's a bit of a sore point over here, where we have MANY US service personnel and their families. A year hardly goes by without a young man or woman has a terrible accident when their learning days in the USA take over from their recent enforced driving skills, and they swerve the wrong way. Hereabouts we have a lot of these kinds of roads -

Sadly, they usually die - that's forty feet wide and 12 -15ft deep.....
