Who is the moron responsible for crafting this finely polished pile of excrement? I see it's presented by a committee. "Senate Bill 659Sponsored by COMMITTEE ON GENERAL GOVERNMENT, CONSUMER AND SMALL BUSINESS PROTECTION" but some one person--somewhere---must be the author.

Thought I was getting a faint whiff of Ginny Burdick--but I can't find any direct connection.

This person must be caught & exiled to the RPK (Peoples Republik of Kalifornia) immediately

I know it listed her as a committee member, but I didn't see that she was the specific author.

IIRC, the NRA gave her a poor grade when it comes to 2nd Amendment, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Here's what I sent:

Senate Bill 659, your bill, had it been in place last year, would have prevented me from restoring a rare and valuable rifle that has been in my family since 1875. What was once a rare old rifle in poor condition, valuable only for sentimental reasons is now completely restored and a work of art. The work took a year and $2000 in gunsmithing. There would be no way, at any price, to add the required features your bill would have required. My rifle would have remained a rusted relic. I will be charitable and assume that your bill is a very misguided effort at gun safety. The alternative is to believe that this is a very sly effort to prevent guns from being repaired or upgraded, thereby making them useless. In truth, all it would do is drive such business out of the State of Oregon. Just what our struggling Oregon economy needs. Shame on you.

According to the Guiness Book of Records, America has MORE laws on the books than any other country on earth! Therefore, the trouble with the drones that we elect to public offices is that there are NO common sense laws left to pass anymore. But all of these insects want to do something that will leave a mark for them on history. So, the people of the "Land of the Free" find themselves more and more burdened with senseless laws. I think we have too many worthless Government drones in various strata of political offices!
Ah, FREEDOM, I miss you so much!

I emailed every member of the committee and I encourage all Oregonians to do the same.

i do not think all oregonians should write every committee member- this piece of garbage legislation is such a joke i feel like humoring it is actually doing more harm than good. flooding these guys' in-boxes is just creating white noise, and weakens our voice on legitimate issues.

I spend a lot of time at the calguns.net web site reading the struggles of California gun owners to undo years of bad laws that were passed in part because California gun owners were politically inert and had a "aw, they'll never pass a law that stupid" laissez faire approach. Now California gun owners have to suffer from the effects of their past inaction. It is much better to nip things in the bud rather than to try to overturn them once they are passed. If you want to end up like California then I agree we shouldn't go through all the trouble and "effort" of sending some email

By the way, Sen. Larry George's office replied four minutes after I sent my email, and thanked me for my comments.

no- californian gun owners are screwed because 95% of californian voters are anti-gun.

No surprise there. Lawyers make up about 60% of Congress (sickening). I want business people, not lawyers to represent me. Sure, there are many good/decent lawyers around, but that does not include the low I.Q. variety who end up as career politicians in D.C. (or at the state level). They aren't smart enough to make it as lawyers so they become politicians instead. And I HATE it when they are referred to as "lawmakers" by the media. Do we really send people to D.C. (or anywhere else) to make more laws? Rant over (but it was all true).

I stand behind any brother who owns guns, even if it is 5%, so what? WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT, what happens to one , or some of us, happens to us all!! Every time some one anywhere is denied his rights it hurts us all.

With over 60,000 members at calguns, and many more at other organizations throughout the state, they are fighting for their rights. But, the vocal minority got in there first, assisted by law enforcement and screwed everybody. BTW calguns is trying to undo a mindset that has been around since the 1930's.

California was host to the largest gun show in the nation at one time, until L.A. county shut it down.

California has always been at the forefront of fire arms innovation and manufacturing, until laws chased them out ( and the fact that it is now one of the worst places to own any business).

Fore warned is fore armed, learn from california's lesson.

Californians generally think 95% of Oregonican women have armpit hair braided with beads and men with no teeth. (So much for preconcieved notions) I know I did, until recently when I found out I had it backwards!:s0112:

BTW I love it when folks pull percentages and statistics out of thin air

this kind of bill needs to be nipped in the bud. not to be taken lightly, until it comes to a full vote! what kind of thinking is that? sounds like your senator in bend needs a real chief of staff, not just a family member on the payroll.

There are several hundred bills introduced every year in the Oregon Legislature that even their sponsors understand have no chance of ever getting out of committee This is one of those. If you get this excited about every anti-gun bill introduced anywhere, writing screeching letters and whatnot, you'll not only go nuts, you'll look nutty too. You'll become known as "that nutty guy who sends us a scree about every stupid gun bill." That's not effective.

So relax. Keep the powder dry. Take aim at something worth shooting at. This one isn't going anywhere and isn't worth your trouble.

You give the antis too much credit. They aren't an organized conspiracy floating trial balloons on a strategic basis. This is just one left-wing anti-gun legislator who can now crow about her anti-gun cred to her constituency, without the bill ever having any chance of a hearing. Save your ammo.

Where have you been? There ARE a very well organized Groups of left wing anti gun conspirators, this legisator may very well be affiliated with one. They don't wear hats and t-shirts advertising they are part of an anti gun Bradyesque group. They must be rooted out and excised from the legislature like the cancerous festering tumor they are. It is up to the People to rise up and see them for what they are.

Any one who would discourage a citizen of this country from exercizing their right to speak out against such a travesty as this legislation is to be considered in league with these people, at least a raging pseudo socialist.

"Save your ammo" indeed! I say use it all, hammer these people so hard at even the suggestion of placing limits and controls on law abiding gun owners, will make them flinch and cower in fear of their BOSSES, the constituents they should be serving.
