Fair enough.
I was just confused by this statement.
I'm assuming now that you mean Bernie supporters need to "clean house"... which I suppose can be said for a lot of parties. Can't say I want that guy relating to me, so I get it.
In retrospect, I now suspect MikeE was accusing me of putting up a "pathetic response" to the initial implication that the guy was a Nazi-esque Trump supporter.
But MikeE hasn't come back to explain himself or his posts, so we don't really know.

MikeE has been rather outspoken about his disdain for Trump and his policies (and his supporters) on this forum in the past, so I suspect this was a continuation/affirmation of that. He is the OP after all, and when this story first broke the initial implication WAS that this guy was a Trump supporter, as reported by a number of "news" outlets.

After all, that's been the false narrative the media and the leftists have put forth from the outset. That Trump and is supporters reside somewhere between the nazis and the KKK politically, and are violent about it.
Even though antifa and the black-bloc element are the only ones to have demonstrated that kind/type of behavior. The fact that the leftist opposition and their antifa brethren have been the perpetrators of violence since the primaries of 2015/2016 seems to be lost on some people.

So, MikeE may have bit on that, as many people have done with this story and others. But until he comes back to explain himself and/or his intentions, he gets the benefit of the doubt.

But beyond that, yes political parties/orgs of ALL persuasions need to do everything they/we can to purge the crazies. Because there seems to be plenty of those on both sides of the aisle these days.

I feel sorry for the victims and their families, however exactly what did the victims accomplish? Bigoted talk as ugly as it can be, is not worth your life. If he was physically attacking innocent people than you could justify interjecting. Sad to see people step into the middle of words and lose their lives for it.
I have to agree. They were heroes. No slight on them. However a verbal assault is not the place to pitch in. If he had been swinging a knife at them it'd have been different but I think these heroes committed too early. Brave men but not thought out.

A couple of thoughts...
Thankful he didn't use a firearm.
The deceased and wounded were NOT prepared to deal with the situation, they should have stayed in their seats.
And had they been prepared and confronted the bad guy for words, what would have happened then? Would they have shot him? You could make a case then that they purposely escalated the words to physical violence. It is a lose lose situation, all over ugly WORDS.. society needs to be less sensitive and more mature on how they handle situations. The best way to defeat a typical mouthpiece bully is to ignore the bully.

I with you guys. I tend to take the stance that you assess the situation, take evidence (video), and monitor.
Confronting leads to escalation. As mad as this type of thing makes me, and as much as you want to put a stop to it the best thing to do is call 911, advise the driver, and keep your distance unless the situation turns violent.

Carrying a firearm taught me do everything possible to descalate, and/or at least don't force escalation.

Amen!

Agreed

I don't think the left is alone in violent behavior, there is a faction of the right who has (and does) engaged in violent behavior/etc.

We can debate which side is more violent (I personally think the anarchists and some on the left) have been more violent in their "protests"/riots, although most of them seem more peaceful, with their gatherings attracting those elements who are looking for an excuse to riot, whereas the right has a far right element which tends to do things more along the line of this particular incident - i.e., much smaller groups, in this case one person, engaging in rage and usually not organized. Hence the assumption by some that it was someone from the far-right.

I tend to wait for the facts, but my first impression was that the guy was from the right side of the aisle. I was and am a bit surprised that an alleged supporter of Bernie was someone who would come unglued on Muslim ladies (assuming that is who they were). Either way, obviously this guy is unhinged to say the least.

In general, you can't usually blame a "leader" for some of the followers they attract - although, given Trumps inflammatory rhetoric, I have no problem in assigning blame to him for most violence some of his followers engage in. In this case, I really doubt that Sanders rhetoric could be blamed for this person's actions - I am thinking this guy is probably very mixed up, and paranoid and just flits from one agenda to another.

That said, both socialism (Sanders) and fascism (Trump) have the logical conclusion of having to resort to violence as a means to their ends

Violence in politics in the US is by far the fault of the left. Not the right. You see crowds of stock brokers marching down the street breaking windows and looting?

Nope.
Yeah, left violence seems to tend to happen in mass by a few at protests, but you see kids shooting up churches during prayer and people getting torn limb from limb by trucks...et cetera... whom subscribe to ideologies of the right.
Which is why I think The Heretic stated what they did.

You may not associate with them, but they might associate with you. Whether that is accurate or appropriate, I doubt makes little difference to them.

That's why I think we agreed earlier that cleaning house of these scumbags would be beneficial.
Too bad there is no absolute way to tell before they commit these crimes.

Well I think Goosebrown is correct in the political talk. The left powers that be are the ones fanning the flames of anarchy because they didn't get their way.

But this isn't about protests and looting. It's about evil. That guy was plain evil.
What he was preaching had nothing to do with politics or left or right. It was hate.

An object lesson to take from this is just how dangerous a Knife is in close quarters. It was said on the news one of the stab victims was stabbed in the throat so hard it broke the mans jaw and there was bone in his throat. I been around a lot of knives and a lot of people who train and have been trained to handle knives (I was a Full time Custom Knifemaker for 14 years) and I am more afraid of a knife at least then 10 ft then a pistol. A pistol can only hurt you straight out the bore. A knife can kill even if it hits you sideways. And it never has to be cocked or reloaded.

I feel for all involved I heard one of the young girls was extremely upset that two men died on her behalf and another wounded that can really mess someone up. Not to mention the trauma the mens families are going through.

Just think what could have happened IF a good guy with a gun had stopped the knife attack?

The DA, the mayor, the gov and the senator's heads would have EXPLODED!!!!
Could you imagine how they would try to spin that one???????????

I think some of yall are reading way to much in to the potential political leanings of this guy. He was just crazy.
I agree somewhat, however many media reports are trying to insinuate that he was likely a Trumper... the facts show otherwise. Media is always trying to divide, so it is understandable that many would want to set the political record straight.

This would be a tricky situation.
By the time the violence set in they were probably so close that you wouldn't be able to get off an effective shot with the 4 or more of them tangled up.
Not to mention the tight car, people in the background making a safe shot impossible. Your best option would be engage as he ran off, but then you still may have innocent bystanders in the background and/or risk shooting the guy in the back and facing charges yourself.

Those people would probably still be dead.
You just may have dropped him before he could get away.

That's the crappy thing about these situations. Why cops are killing unarmed people. They have the knowledge that those who react first win. And in this deadily game you need to win.
It's why so many LEOs have been getting shot and killed lately. They are forced to react 2nd so they are the one in the jumpsuit.
