I built an ammo storage shelf from wood to fit inside the left side of the cabinet.
I also added magnets to the bottom of the top shelf to hold 3 handguns.
The ammo shelf is 7.5" deep. The right side of the cabinet for gun storage is about 8-8.5" deep. I currently hold two AR pistols in there comfortably for reference.

Added information - the wood storage shelf isn't bolted on or anything. It's freestanding and connected onto the the top wood shelf. It can all be removed easily.
