Okay, I get it, long range starts at 600 yards, but anything over 300 yards is long range to me.

I had the chance to shoot Friday after work, not much wind and no chores. 7mm-08, 150 Eldx at 2790 mv, prone at 400 yards, bipod. First time in a couple of months, it was nice to get some trigger time.

I didn't have much time so I went back today and stretched it to 500 yards. Same setup. A bit windy this morning, left to right, but I doped it pretty well. I figured 4 mph full value, which gave me a hair over 1 MOA, so I held on the left edge.

A little better than MOA at 500. If the weather cooperates I'll have a few more opportunities.

Here's a couple.

This one is from the headwaters of Trapper Creek, as it issues up from a hole in the ground.

This one is an after-action shot of I spike I killed in 2015, 346 yards.

4-12 @ 500 yds? Congrats on your eyesight.

I'm in the market for a scope now. I have a 6 - 18 3HD (?), Leopold on an 18" 223. I really like it except the cross hairs can be too fine at times. I think k the highest magnification for a firedot in that price range, my max, is 12x.

So I can go less magnification with a firedot, which helps, or more magnification but have trouble defining the crosshairs in some conditions. This would be for a 308 bolt gun.

12x is a lot of magnification. Craters on the moon magnification.

More than enough at 500.

I used a 3-9x40 at 400 yards. Of course it was set on 9x. It was ok for me, but I could see wanting more magnification at that distance or farther. I almost bought a 4-12x40 when I bought a new scope, but then realized I haven't shot at a critter at distances over 100 yards! I would think a 12x would be effective for me at 500 yards. But not everybody has the same eyes.

Nice shooting @pharmseller .

Nice shooting indeed. I run a Tikka T3 lite stainless in 6.5 Creedmoor and a Vortex Viper PST II 2-10x32 FFP and feel comfortable up to 600 yds, which is long range for me. Rifle and scope are light enough for me on my titanium knees to take some decent hikes into the backcountry. Just another option to consider.

I've been a fan of the 7mm-08 for a long time. I have a few years worth of primed brass I picked up from a member here a few years back. I sold my rem m7 when the threads stretched the second time between the barrel and receiver. I have not replaced it. I should as I'd use that for any thing on the content. And it Carrie's decent performance at longer ranges. Thought about going 7mm SAW. To get a extra 250fps. Decided that's too much money for some thing I don't shoot but 2-4 times a year. I built a Covid Grendel and still have not shot it yet.
Nice rifle. I really like the stock color choice.
