We the people ........... I hope that others do this as well. There are no recruitment center near me or I would do this too. Yes, it sends a message to many. To our military, we love you and are proud of you and grieve for you. To our enemies, don't screw with us (some of us anyhow) or ours ....... ever.

Mike

The IRA used to hit nightclubs where British soldiers frequented.

Look out for attacks on open bases stateside or off post housing or :( Schools where Military dependents attend.

We are wide open to terrorism and our Commander in Chief doesn't want to acknowledge how vulnerable our Military and their families are.

Sadly the center by me is in a mall parking lot and I would be escorted out by Mall Cop.

Considering the threat we live under in our society which is "tolerant" of terrorists, I would say we should have armed people in front of every church, synagogue, special events (like marathons), street festivals, recruiting offices, malls, military bases and any other area where those considered "unholy" may congregate in large numbers or be considered easy targets.

Of course, I think it is only a matter of time before our country ends up being more like Middle Eastern countries and we will start seeing our religious institutions, malls, supermarkets, festivals/special events, etc will be attacked with bombs instead of guns. Bombs are quite easy to make , easier to hide and produce much more carnage. I think we will soon be seeing a wave of bombings hit throughout the country. Shootings will be there too, but not every terrorist is eager to give up their life, which a shooting rampage usually will result in.

In Pakistan, for example, shooting rampages and bombings are just a part of daily life.

We do not live in your grandfather or grandmother's America, anymore.

Your post made me think of that old Bruce Willis movie 'The Siege". Terrorists detonate bombs at various soft targets thoughout NYC, local LEO's can't handle it and martial law is declared. I thought the movie setup a fairly plausible scenario for martial law in 1997, and now even more so given the level of fear that's been cultivated in this country over the nearly two decades since this movies release.

What does our country end up looking like when/if homegrown Jihadists start blowing up schools, churches and malls? Will that be enough to bring the protectionists out of their fantasy, or will they just capitulate and surrender all personal liberty for the false sense of security provided by a nationwide martial law edict.

What can or should the patriots of this country be looking to do so that the next attack doesn't end up pushing the sheep off the proverbial cliff?

I'm not as terrified of home grown Jihadists. They make up such a small number of deaths each year. Since 9/11 190,000 people murdered in America. 37 of those murdered were by muslim linked terrorists.

In 2013 3 people were killed at the Boston marathon bombing. In that same year 5 people were killed by toddlers from accidental shootings.

Statistically speaking, you have a better chance of being killed by a refrigerator falling on you and killing you than being killed by a muslim linked terrorist.

You have a 1 in 77.6 chance of being killed in your lifetime in a fatal car accident.
You have a 1 in 18996 of being murdered annually.
You have a 1 in 517 of being killed by heart disease. It makes up 25 percent of deaths in america.
You're actually 55 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than a muslim terrorist.
The list goes on. I think you have mathematically better odds at winning the Oregon megamillions lottery than being killed by a jihadist.

Rather than debate about the danger of home grown jihadists, I will just say that things can change..

In the year 2003-2015 there was almost 30,000 people murdered by terrorists in Pakistan. This is almost as much as Vietnam war. Let us not forget as well all the people who were wounded, maimed, crippled , deformed and mutilated by bombs or from being shot. No, this is not Pakistan, but considered the large increase in Islamic population, we may start to feel the pains that these countries have, with our open immigration policy and blind trust of every political group in this group. As others said here, Islam, in its current form, is not really a religion, but a political group.

The fact only 3 people died in the Boston Marathon bombing was luck, but many, many more were wounded, losing limbs, etc.

Basically, the more terrorists who can carry out attacks with little retribution on their own political group or communities, the more emboldened other terrorists will be to do the same and we will see a chain reaction. In France, the terror attacks are getting worse and worse. Not to mention how certain neighborhoods have been completely taken over and now have institution a de facto Sharia Law. Dearborn, MI is probably the closest example of a city that has started to institute Sharia Law, unoffifically. They have found several cells of terrorist groups operating in this area. There has been quite a few Al Shahab members, for example, who were born and raised in the Dearborn area.

If it doesn't bother you, that is fine. However, the more heavily armed , trained and the larger the population of a political group who hates Americans, their values, religions, military, etc the more chance we have of losing the secure and peaceful lifestyle we had. Nobody ever thought Nazi Germany would have mobilized for war and attacked its European neighbors. How many people were murdered by Nazis from 1920-1934?

I think we have far more emerging threats to our safety than terrorists. I know. I've been to Afghanistan and Iraq myself. In my 15 months in Iraq and over 6 months in Afghanistan, I treated more civilians wounded and killed in accidents. In fact I think we created more terrorists than we killed. We dropped so many 1000 pound bombs.

A lot of the guys burying road side bombs in Iraq were not even Al Qaeda. A large portion of them were super poor people who were paid 50 bucks to bury holes.

There is reality versus fantasy. It's one thing to read the news and get fed the fear its another thing to actually be in Afghanistan. Talk to the local people and actually get a feel for the culture. Most of those people are living like its 1861. They wanna grow their poppies and be left alone.

One thing people don't really talk about is everyone is completely high.

Even the guys we capture are so illiterate. Out of two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq - I still go back to the cold hard truth. The 9/11 attacks were committed by SAUDI's. Bin Laden was a SAUDI. Our beloved Ally.

I don't give a damn what those people want to do in their own country. If they want to fight and kill each other with religious and civil war that is their business.

But actual threat of terrorism versus the reality is completely different. Heart disease due to obesity is going to kill more Americans this year than terrorists.

Nice to see someone standing up to do something, though I wonder how effective it will really be. As someone else pointed out above, they'll simply look for other soft targets, there are so many after all. Until we fundamentally change the way we think about defending ourselves, many will remain easy targets for lone wolf terrorists. I honestly don't know the solution to this, except to do away completely with gun free zones, at least so it's not so damn obvious to the bad guys who is armed and who isn't.

My unstable refrigerator isn't going to detonate itself inside a school either, besides with all the bacon in there I'm fairly sure the ol'girl isn't a Jihadist. I'll keep an eye peeled though just to be safe.

I do understand and appreciate the point your are making, you're a Realist and I agree that far more American lives will be lost to high cholesterol and bathroom accidents involving Q-tips than to terrorists.

However..

I can think of no other event with a greater threat potential to our individual liberty than more of these attacks, or God help us a coordinated attack on the scale of 911 but even without a horrific body count the psychological damage just from being under constant threat of attack will have the sheeple braying for a solution. I simply don't have faith that our leadership won't take advantage of any situation they are presented with to advance their own agenda, which from what we have seen lately is about as far from liberty and justice for all as it can get.

Activists angry over remark about armed citizens at recruiting office

A remark in the reader comments section of yesterday's Tacoma News Tribune story about armed citizen volunteers providing security for the Army recruiting office in Spanaway has infuriated some gun rights activists because it called the two men "a couple of wingnut jackasses."

One minor correction, Dave. "Both were openly armed with semi-auto rifles" is slightly incorrect. They are both carrying AR pistols. http://www.bellinghamherald.com/news/state/washington/article28291312.html, as you can see from the photo.
