Pretty hard to find a good wood carver today. The guy I know does laser etching (burning) and does really nice stuff.

Unless someone does it for merely a hobby, and has independent income, good hand carving is expensive. Takes a lot of time to get something looking good. That's why the trend of 3-D machine carving or laser "etching". Definitely quicker but the results have no "soul".

If I knew a guy in Romania that did remarkable work for a reasonable price I'd be contacting UPS. They ship to and from Romania. You may end up with a piece of art that's worth the wait.
