After experiencing the debate and vote in Clackamas County I ponder some things, maybe once written here.

1. How can sensible and liberal thought be used in the same country?

2. If we create sensible free speech laws for Liberals, then we become correct!

That would work!

Liberals ARE attacking the first amendment:
  • anything they disagree with is hate speech. How long before you can be jailed or have you posessions confiscated for it as "hate speech"?
  • The 1A also allows freedom of religion. Note the unrelenting attacks on Christianity, the largest religion in the US, by the left in the usual incremental strategy.
I would assert that if you examine all the Amendments you will see liberals chipping away at them. This is why the destruction of the 2A is so important to them, as it protects the rest.

How it could be otherwise is states enacting law that nullified any encroachment the federal government on this plain language. The role of the federal government is to provide a common defense for the nation of sovereign states, to pay the debts and regulate commerce between nations and to facilitate a stable monetary system. The Constitution is the law of the land, it was put in place to protect the people from the government, The constitution should be all that is required at the federal level to ensure the proper function of government. The states only obligation to the nation is to uphold the constitution and act in a fashion conducive to UNITED states. If the federal government runs amok we have a duty as citizens to see to it that at a state and local level these laws are nullified and those who try to enforce unconstitutional laws are treated as the treasonous criminals they are.

The problem with all of that is we have become a nation of gluttonous, lazy and uninterested slugs who's only interest is in football and which movie star is sleeping with what rock star. Aldous Huxley got it far more right in A Brave New World than Wells did in 1984. In the course of my short lifetime, less than 50 years, we have gone from a nation that valued independence, practiced self reliance and rewarded personal accountability to one that sees self reliance as a crime, critical thinking as dangerous and freedom to act in your own best interest seen as criminal. This is no accident, It has come about due to a fundamental shift in our federal government seizing more and more power. Every aspect of our personal life is now regulated and scrutinized "for your own protection" We are told we are in danger and only the mighty hand of the federal government can protect us. It does not matter if the threat is old age, A sickness, poor education, a mugger, terrorism or a collapsing banking system the answer is always more government. We have become beholden to a government that is out of control, the only way to take our lives back is to dismantle it. Its not a matter of changing this law or that law it is about reducing the government back to its proper role which means cutting 90% of current funding. You simply cannot have a massive government and have it serve the will of the people. It is natural for things to get bigger, which is why our constitution imposed strict limits on government. Limits which have been skirted time and time again "just this once, for the good of the people" until we have this monster which is government for the government by the government at the expense of the people.

So Sensible gun law starts with personal accountability. It starts with a dismantling of federal over reach and a reduction in the size of the federal government. Personally I think this is the fight. The size of the government has exploded under both the red and blue team. People seem to only want to fight about who is in control of this bloated monster, when it really does not matter. The nature of government is control plain and simple.

So yes we need sensible gun laws, state and local laws that guarantee protection from a federal government run amok. Laws to nullify its reach and restore power back to its rightful place in the hands of the people. Government at the local level by local people is the only government that works.

Ya well I get kinda bummed when I see a post that talks about the American people in a bad light. In my opinion the people are really good at heart but have been lied to since birth. I think the problem is the liars not the people being lied to.

I don't like it Jim, but you gotta call a spade a spade no matter how much you would like it to be a rose.

I think if the people were fed a diet of truth from the media it would be different. You see it yourself when you open the eyes of another person that has been raised and educated under lies. If the people are as bad as you see then they are the fruit of the system that raise them.o_O

That's true, but how does that change who they are? If they have no fault how can they be expected to change? We are responsible because we allowed it, we tollorate it and in many cases of the American public they even demand it. Nope, until we can see where we are how can we hope to get where we want to be? Saying it's not their fault is silly. Your saying no one is responsible, no one can be expected to do better? Does everyone get a trophy and a passing grade? Do we simply make excuses rather than demand personal accountability ?

Taking personal responsibity is step one. As long as it's always someone else's fault and someone else's problem we will never make meaningful change

Never said they were not partial at fault but how can you pass judgement when they don't know the truth? Fault and blame is on the shoulders of the liars or those who chose to keep the truth from people with censorship. PC is the poison in America's suicide.

If you want to hold the people accountable then give them the truth and see which way they go with it. If they turn toward politics then they are holding up their duties as a citizen. If they turn to football then they are just holding a space in a chair and deserve what happens to them.

Sensible gun laws only come about when the full truth is known, liars have a different idea about what sensible is.

The people have to find the truth on their own, they always have. As long as they are dependent on others to provide the truth for them they will be slaves and sheep to who ever provides that "truth"

I would argue that many people aren't aware they are slaves, because it's all they've ever known. I have to go with Jim on this one. While some may 'awaken' to truth on their own, in most cases, when folks are buried under a mountain of one particular type of teaching and indoctrination, they just don't see that there's something else - and they're convinced that any other type of teaching, regardless of what it is, is false (kind of how people get pulled into cults that control their every thought). Now teach them that questioning what they've been taught is to be discouraged or even repressed, and you squash any chance or coming out of it (think North Korea). Some people will always need someone to help show them the path - whether they choose to follow that path, is up to them. Sometimes they just need someone to ignite a spark, the fire catches very easily.

People can't choose the right path unless it's clearly marked, same same:D.

Well of course, but to think the govenment, and by extension the corporate owned media will ever tell the truth is truly delusional. The truth will come from the people when they wake up and search for it and not until

A real education is one that makes you think " what is different". Today's indoctrination have done away with thinking. If you can't think then you are told what the meaning of sensible is.

we need to shift our thinking of gun laws. they are all designed to ultimately take guns out of all people's hands. don't want a 'felon' to have a gun? don't let the felon out of jail. if someone believe's a person is too dangerous for a gun? lock them up. it really is that simple. how many years did our country roll right along with out the BATFE, NFA, GCA, etc..??

again, the right of the PEOPLE (not the government; police, national guard, army, etc..) to keep and bear arms (you own them and get to keep them with you all the time should you choose) shall not be infringed (no more laws, period)

The Second Amendment was the only law we need and is sensible on guns. It's all the other laws that need to be enforced.
