Here's an update from Marion Bishop, a moderator in the Facebook "Washington 2022 Legislative Action Group - Save your civil rights" group. Here's the original post:

Or if you don't do Facebook, here it is:

2022 WA Legislative Session - Week 7 Summary and Week 8 Help Needed

Most important info first: All 2A-relevant bills are at this have passed out of their chamber of origin and out of committee in the opposite chamber. Any of them could be pulled to a floor vote this week. We need to keep the pressure on to keep them from getting a floor vote.

Welcome to another in a series of threads discussing the 2A-relevant bills being discussed during this year's Washington state legislative session, which runs from 1/10 to 3/10. In these threads we will be providing an overview of the bills and how to take actions against the bad ones.

Week 7 Summary

ESSB 5078, banning standard capacity magazines, remains in the House Rules committee but could be passed to a floor vote at any time this week.

HB 1705, banning "ghost guns", and HB 1630, banning possession of weapons at off-campus school board meetings and facilities used for certain government meetings were passed out of the Senate Law & Justice committee along party lines. These bills remain in the Senate Rules committee but could be passed to a floor vote at any time this week.

All of these 2A-relevant bills only have two more steps to go through before passing the legislature:

1. Scheduling for a floor vote by the Rules committee
2. Final passage with a floor vote

The cutoff date for these bills to pass the legislature is this Friday, March 4th. This week looks to be very busy with floor sessions happening every day and lots of bills will be heard.

Week 8 Help Needed

In the House, ESSB 5078 sits with the Rules committee for scheduling the bill for a floor vote. As a reminder, this is an election year for every member of the House, and they need to understand that this bill is widely unpopular, ineffective, actively harmful, and we will campaign against Representatives who support this bill. Please reach out to your Representative if you have not already, and make sure they understand just how extreme this bill is.

Please share this message far and wide. If we're going to have a shot at defeating these bills, we need overwhelming amounts of calls, voicemails, and pressure on the Representatives, especially those in weak/swing districts. Calls are worth more than emails.

In the House, we are focusing on the following Representatives:

Representative - Legislative District - Phone - Email

Dave Paul - 10 - (360) 786-7914 - [email protected]
Alicia Rule - 42 - (360) 746-3744 - [email protected]
Sharon Shewmake - 42 - (360) 786-7854 - [email protected]
Brandy Donaghy - 44 - (360) 786-7804 - [email protected]
April Berg - 44 - (425) 939-8423 - [email protected]
Steve Tharinger - 24 - (360) 786-7904 - [email protected]
Mike Chapman - 24 - (360) 786-7916 - [email protected]
Dan Bronoske - 28 - (360) 786-7958 - [email protected]
Mari Leavitt - 28 - (360) 786-7890 - [email protected]
Jamila Taylor - 30 - (360) 868-6290 - [email protected]

In the Senate, we want to continue to have overwhelming public opposition against these 2A bills. If you are in a weak Democrat/swing district, it is even more critical to reach out. A list of senators we are focusing on is as follows:

Kevin Van de Wege (D) - LD 24 - [email protected] - 360-786-7646
Steve Conway (D) - LD 29* - [email protected] - 360-786-7656
Mark Mullet (D) - LD 5 - [email protected] - 360-786-7608
John Lovick (D) - LD 44* - [email protected] - 253-275-1405
T'wina Nobles (D) - LD 28 - T'[email protected] - 360-786-7654
Annette Cleveland (D) - LD 49 - [email protected] - 360-786-7696
Emily Randall (D) - LD 26* - [email protected] - 360-786-7650
Mona Das (D) - LD 47* - [email protected] - 360-786-7692
Claire Wilson (D) - LD 30* - [email protected] - 360-786-7658
Andy Billig (D) - LD 3 - [email protected] - 360-786-7604

Legislative districts with an asterisk (*) have their senate seats up for reelection this fall.

As usual I would like to plug WCRA's Discord server as great resources for staying informed.

Numbers matter and we must keep the pressure on. It unquestionably helps our cause to have overwhelming amounts of testimony opposing these bills. Keep your comments civil, articulate, and brief. For written testimony I would advise keeping it to one paragraph. It would be helpful to leave a quick "Done" comment for us once you've contacted your Representatives.

Please reach out if you have questions and thank you for stepping up to defend your rights. We have stopped bad legislation in the past few years and with your help, will continue to do so.

Remind them that street cops are the foremost experts on street crime. Not one of all the police officers I have met or been friends with ever believed that magazine restrictions or semi-auto bans affect street crime. If someone is willing to shoot people, they are of a mindset where gun laws are meaningless to them.

Politicians respond to whatever helps or hinders their careers. Floods of calls and emails will show them people care. Give them a good reason they justify voting your way. One reliable reason is that a super majority of police officers say that gun and magazine laws do nothing to stop crime. 15,000 cops were polled by a national police group a few years ago. 95% said magazine limits don't reduce crime. 71% say semi-automatic bans don't reduce crime. Pollsters use polls of 2000 people to reflect the views of 330 million American within a 1% error margin. Polls of 15,000 police officers can be accepted as proof of how "most" street cops think.

Street cops are our foremost experts on crime. You can even suggest the politician ask street cops their own opinions. Not chiefs of police, street cops. Chiefs will parrot whatever the mayor says to protect their jobs. This is a link to a summary of their survey.
