Oregon Public Broadcasting's Think Out Loud program will have a segment on proposed gun legislation this morning, featuring everyone's favorite senator, Ginny Burdick.

In this short legislative session, two lawmakers are focusing on bills related to handguns. Rep. Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer) introduced legislation that would allow concealed weapons permits to be themselves concealed from public records requests.

Sen. Ginny Burdick (D-Portland) has introduced legislation that would address that issue directly. She's sponsoring a bill that would ban guns and other "dangerous weapons" on school grounds and another that would ban them in all public buildings. Burdick told the Oregonian her bills are a reaction to Thatcher's bill.

Do you have a concealed weapons permit? Do you work at a school or in another kind of public building? How would these bills affect you?

They learned once before when they began this agenda, that the funding they rely on from donations fell off drastically and they slowed down for a long long time. Time to beging making calls to them and let them know that you will work to reduce or end their tree of free money............ NO Donations any longer. That is what they fear and understand. Don't expect someone else to do it, MAKE the calls.... Everyone of youi and get others to do the same til they get the message.

I listened to the archived show. Not a bad show except having to listen to Burdick try to rationalize her positions.

"It will create a defense free zone." Rep. Kim Thatcher commenting on Burdick's bill. Listening to Burdick talk about a child emptying her purse as an example of why guns shouldn't be in schools might have been amusing if she wasn't serious. The other part where she used alcohol on college campuses as a reason to prohibit firearms was weak too. There aren't many places on university campuses where alcohol is allowed. Dorms, parking lots during football games, and the club sections of a stadium are the exemptions that come to mind.

I also enjoyed most of the comments on the website, outside of the one troll.
