I wanted to put gutter guards on the house because I'm 77 and tired of cleaning gutters on our two-story home. I read about Leaf Filter and found one person who said they quote $9000 regardless of the job size. Sure enough, the salesman quoted 9k. $9k was $45 a lineal foot and I asked the guy if he thought I was a damn fool. As he was leaving, he just happened to remember that he had a Friends & Family coupon and they could do the job for $3800. I have to wonder how many people these jerks have scammed. I still need gutter guards. Does anyone have some that work?

Fortunately, I still consider myself a "young whippersnapper" when it comes to cleaning my gutters and maintaining my roof (and inevitably, I'll be transported into reality with one slip of a ladder).

Aside from juvenile illusions of immortality, I always figured such devices would not work on my house surrounded by Coastal trees and vegetation (the "screens", or "lips" in other models would simply be completely defeated and/or plugged with Big Leaf Maple leaves and helicopters, even though local firefighters praised my perimeter clearance).

Now I have ANOTHER reason to ignore the commercials and await my abrupt introduction to something rumored to be called gravity.

...and it reminds me of calling for estimates on windows (one was damaged, was intending to buy three), and Andersen wanted the whole job (of 11 windows) or nothing.

My sister said of such people, "Dirty Basstards!"

I made the mistake of looking into another one of these kind of businesses/scammers(?).

OH LORD! I never let them get to the point of coming over here to the house. Just the fact that they would, absolutely NOT, come here if the wife and I weren't both here. For a grand presentation. Just watching their incessant, annoying commercials would be enough for me.

I would think that regular gutter guys would have access to gutters that would accept screening material?

I have heard many professionals say they rarely work as advertised and are a waste of money.

For $3800 you could probably find a small business that will do it for $100-200 and that is a lot of years to pay for up front.

Put Leaf Filter (yes, the actual Leaf Filter, like I think the OP is talking about) on my home 2-1/2 years ago for $1,650 and have never had to phuq with leaves/pine needles/helicopters/weeds since. Leaf Filter actually works as advertised, in my situation. Dunno why you're getting such a dickjob from the salesperson... :s0092:

I had the leaf filter type screens put on my gutters 12 years ago. I have yet to go on the roof for any gutter related issues since. My house is surrounded by maples that drop buds leaves and helicopters. I paid $1600 for 200 linear feet.

We had some leaf filters installed on our gutters a couple of years ago, and they're working fine so far.

No idea what brand of filters they installed, but I was surprised at how affordable they were. Sorry, I don't recall the price.

The company, All City Guttering, is based in Dallas. Logan and Roger both did an outstanding job for us, and put in extra time due to some custom work that was needed.

Their number is 503-931-9835.

We have a lot of trees around our house, and my guess is that the filters will need to be swept or blown clean every two or three years.

Good luck!

My Leaf Filter screens are designed such that they never need sweeping or to be blown off. The design of the filters and the normal winds around here obviate any need of additional work.

Very nice.

This is our second Winter with the leaf guards. It'll be interesting to see how much debris is on them in another year.

Not about gutters here but about the bathroom remodeling in one day. 2nd bathroom, 8x10 maybe. $7800.00
For that cost, I had a bigger bathroom done in tile, in another house. It took 3 days but that wasn't an issue.

It "sounds" like what is going on is 3d party people are doing the bids. If the job can be given to the Co for 4K and the person farming bids then gets a cut? They would I guess get a much bigger cut if they talk someone into giving them8K they make a lot bigger cut. The Co in question here is NOT doing themselves any favors allowing this. They have to know its being done in their name. I see a lot of places advertise these kind of things. So sure sounds like anyone wanting to do this should of course get prices from a few places.

That sounds like it's certainly possible. The guy who came to my house to meet with me and discuss the proposed work, which happened after I had received a flyer from Leaf Filter in the U.S. Mail and made an appointment with them to talk to a sales rep, was directly from Leaf Filter. Not a middleman...

Makes me wonder if someone in the higher command did not come up with an "idea" to farm out the bidding? Any of us who have been around a good while have seen a company get off the ground, get rolling along real well, then someone will make some really poor choice and tank things. The kind of choices that most of us who never went to school to learn how to run a large Co look at and think WTF is wrong with you? So I have to wonder if the Co did not make this old mistake?? They need to nip this in the bud now if they have done this. With the net now a really poor choice? Word can spread fast and be devastating.

My last house only had a gutter over the front door and garage door, everywhere else had french drains. For 9k you can get a lot of trenching done.

I just took the gutters off the roof and set them on the ground. MUCH easier to get the leaves out that way.

If you get one of those pinchy-reachy things, you don't even need to bend over.

I called another LeafFilter brand contractor and told him the story I posted here. When I finished, I asked the guy if he would come and give me a bid and he said no!

Well there seems to be several places making these things now. So if they want to drive customers away this should do it. Sure as hell sounds like someone there is making some poor choices.
