I just don't want anybody to get any false ideas about what a "sanctuary" is - i.e., it is not a sanctuary.

A sanctuary in this context is: a place of refuge and protection

These laws/et. al. do not give you protection, they just give you fewer people that will be coming to kick in your door and shoot your dog - there will also be less witnesses when that happens.

They may be no more than effective than Flipping the Bird in Easy Rider, but that 'Bird' was a 'Free Bird' and that became a Redneck Freedom Lovers Anthem lol. Symbols can be very important, so I am hoping to see a 'Live Free or Die' Tee Shirt Resurgence among the young.

I remember it well. I was shocked by it when I eventually saw it. When our parents saw it at the time, they wouldn't even tell us about it. We new it was something bad though. It was several years later before I ever saw it.
