It's pretty straight forward. Find someone who has walked the path, let them offer guidance.

As far as 'worth it'.....I have multiple examples of "I think so" in the safe........

We have several for various applications. Worth the expense and paperwork? Resounding "yes", imho. For everyone? No, probably not.

Naturally, no one can make that call for you. But, generally, for those interested, but on the fence: the paperwork and tax are simply an annoyance and you might find it adds enjoyment to your shooting. Maybe give it a spin. :)

I have never owned a suppressor but shot a couple guns with them and don't really see the need.

Understand however essentially ALL my shooting is outside, in the woods, and report is not so much an issue but even then the guns I shot with them (ARs) weren't that much quieter.

Personally I see them as sort of a trumped up 'fad' device considering 10 years ago I hardly ever heard about them - and now a days it seems like many cannot live without them.

It's pretty nice on a longer shooting session. Reduces what I call "shooter's fatigue" from all the noise and concussion. Also, they protect your hearing which is nice.

As you're in Oregon, it's up for debate if 114 will impact suppressor sales with the permit to purchase. I'd wait and see what shakes out. To answer your question, my suppressed VQ always puts a smile on my face. My suppressed 92G is almost as much fun.

Yah, I'm waiting to see how that goes. Would like to get a few.

Also just moved, so want to wait until all the change of address stuff plus money barfing on odds & ends calms down.

I've had my eye on a couple since the initial 114 vote. In hindsight, I should have just bought them then and I'd already be in possession. Oh well, live and learn

As far as '...that's really cool...'..the prizewinner there is my 10.5" 300BLK with 220gr subsonic ammo, and my Omega 300. That combo is Hollywood quiet. Last time at the range, a couple of the RO's came by to admire "...whatever is whispering up here..."....

2nd for giggle factor is probably my customized 10-22. With my Sparrow on it, with subsonic ammo....it's a lot of fun, on the cheap. Great trigger (Brimstone), great scope (Nikon rimfire).....and really quiet.

Lastly, though not last at all, is my G17 with the Osprey on it. Put a KKM barrel in the frame, and it runs smooth like buttah.

....yeah, we do Silencerco here....never had an issue, the one time I needed customer service, they shined.

Worth it....yes. Yes indeed.....

People have different ideas about suppressors. Some want a really quit firearm so they go the route of lowering the speed of the ammo to below the speed of sound. Others want a full speed ammo but don't want the muzzle blast and boom.

Myself I just want to save my hearing when I shoot and get tired of headphones.

In this day and age in Oregon, is a suppressor worth the effort?
Kind of a moot point. I buy a LOT of stuff that many would look at and say they don't understand. Have multiple guns set up to take a can. Wife and I have gone back and forth setting up a trust to buy a couple (at least) cans. The trouble is really the only reason we have not yet done so. I guess in a way its good for me as if I could just walk into a shop and buy the stamps I know full well I would have several by now. :s0140:
SBR's and cans to me are a TON of damn fun though. I fully understand anyone who has them and wants even more.

Live without them.....yes. do my job without them....no

I gotta admit, I'm pretty much with RVTECH on this one. I have nothing against them or the people who own them, but they just don't do anything for me. That's fine; everyone likes different things. Different strokes, and all that.

It's a little like asking if golf clubs are worth it. Sure, if you like to golf. Personally I don't golf. It's not my game; I get nothing out of it, so golf clubs would be wasted on me. I doubt I'd own a suppressor if they were $50 over the counter at Walmart. The only shooting I do is at the range, with very good hearing protection. I wouldn't care for the extra hassle, or the bulk and weight of something hanging off the end of the barrel.

I know a lot of guys have practical uses for them, and their interests go beyond the "cool" factor, but I do think a lot of folks are just intrigued by the uber-tactical aspect. And nothing wrong with that, by the way, if that's what you like! It's just not for me.

Buy one and try it out. Would suggest starting out with a rifle can, maybe for a bolt action you may have, or a semi auto that you primarily shoot from a bench so you don't have to get used to the extra weight hanging off the end of your rifle shooting off hand.

I think you will smile the first time you shoot it....unless you haven't tightened it down enough and you end up launching your can that you waited for over a year to play with 40 yards downrange (ask me how I know).

Yes they are worth it, several of my fiends have bought one or two after shooting mine.
Big plus is not blowing your ears out if you have to shoot in the house.

True dat. Or if you are shooting 22lr subsonics suppressed in the house, it's the same sound level as dropping a pen on the floor.
