It's a little more complicated than that.... aannndddd..... they determined that those "extinct" poop bacteria were beneficial, how? We're talking about a time when people considered 30 years old to be "ancient".
More likely, the reason those bacteria are now so rare could be because they killed their hosts.
The feces were dried.Interesting to consider, but wow, I pity the scientist that digs up the outhouse at the family cabin a thousand years from now.
How do they know which bacteria came from the gut and which bacteria may have populated the poo piles after it was excreted from the body? This is why we should be licking door knobs and gathering our food from the dumpstersScience | AAAS

You will have to ask the authors of the study those questions. I haven't got a clueHow do they know which bacteria came from the gut and which bacteria may have populated the poo piles after it was excreted from the body? This is why we should be licking door knobs and gathering our food from the dumpsters
I wonder who it is that wanted a job looking at old poop?Fun Fact for today: 50% to 80% of the solids in your pile of poop is bacteria.
100% of bacteria poop is human so put that in your pipe and chew on it.Fun Fact for today: 50% to 80% of the solids in your pile of poop is bacteria.
