it will not be too long before I leave too. this 13% income tax in Oregon is unbearable.

BTW Indiana is not that humid. some parts of eastern indiana is but it is not that bad

Congrats on the move. There are many paths to a happy existence. Was just at the doctor's yesterday. They gave me some form on depression. After question #1, I handed it back and told them, this doesn't even make sense. If you answer on their scale to say you are happy, it actually means you are depressed.

Anyone who can find the path of least resistance to financial and mental happiness, is alright with me.

When I lived in California, I had a good job but was stuck financially. I was never going to move ahead. The move to Oregon, which most people there couldn't understand, gave me the boost to break free.

I moved to Oregon in 1994 I do not plan to leave. Yes there are some issues but I don't know of a Nirvana each place has its good and it's bad. Already know where my ashes will be spread. Nope I am not leaving.

Well, here I am in Indiana for the last 2 weeks. I have to admit that I enjoyed being an outlaw when I drove across Illinois with a truck load of guns and 20K rounds of ammo. It's a permanent move, even though I hung on to my Oregon property. My wife is loving her new job running a statewide program for one of the medical schools. Among the perks of living here:

1) Constitutional Carry
2) No BGC on private gun sales
3) Nearly everyone here likes guns
4) Red state conservative political atmosphere
5) Schools are not indoctrinating my kids
6) Virtually no homeless
7) Almost no graffiti
8) Nobody cares about your pronouns
9) Green haired people are damn few and far between
10) Damn few sh*tbox Subarus covered in leftist stickers and driven by angry, mean faced, clipped haired women at 15 mph
11) Statewide school vouchers
12) No DEQ except the two counties bordering Chicago
13) They still have sit down restaurants here
14) Costco, Home Depot, and dozens of decent restaurants are within 5 minutes of my house
15) $3 gasoline
16) Reasonable speed limits
17) 50% lower real estate prices

I've been involved in open wheel, paved oval track racing since I was 14 years old. I now live 2 miles from Indianapolis Raceway Park, and 5 miles from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I had breakfast the other day at Charlie Brown's, a stone's throw from IMS and a legendary racer's hangout. So far, so good. When I take the oldest kid to her charter prep school each morning I pass by the Turn 2 grandstands at IMS. Looking forward to next Memorial day...and to being able to actually buy and sell some firearms privately without losing 20% to dealers and BCGs.

The month of May the track opens for practice and racing for pole positions. Used to be the world's largest purveyor (for one day) of ketchup and mustard. 250,000+ attendance. If you have never been the pagentry is something, plus there are Pre-Race Day parties everywhere. Don't sit down too close to the fence, as it is very hard to see them as they go by at 220 mph!! Its a good state to live in

I wanted to move back to Cali/Bay Area to be close to family but I would have to give up all my black guns/mags and register each gun. I decided not to move. I'd rather keep my freedom and favorite hobby. I feel that is more important for me.

An hour north of Terre Haute is where my family is, mostly centered around Rockville.
We would always visit in July or August. 95 degree days, 95% humidity. I know that a person can/will get used to it. We would take a week or better to get there and it wasn't too noticeable. However, one year we flew. Left Portland after dark on a beautiful summer evening. Stepped off of the plane in Chicago in the AM and got smacked in the face by the heat and humidity! Ewww....

I flew back a few years ago in early September and it wasn't so bad. What I really did like was that once you left the city, there was almost no traffic on those nice two lane roads. It's beautiful. Just watch out for the Amish wagons! :) The pace of life is much slower and is comforting. Beats the hell out of what the Portland area has become.

I am from Paris IL just across the border from Terre Haute. Indy, CHI and Portland got in the way of being here in Texas.
Sixteen years in Paris and I really do not remember it being hot. We all played out in it every day anyway! Had a large attic fan in the landing. Sun went down, you turned that on and it sucked all of the warmth in about 10 minutes.

Enjoy Indiana. Things to do in every direction

Some issues is putting it lightly! Oregon has turned into a complete $#!t show, we are circling the drain
