Well, here I am in Indiana for the last 2 weeks. I have to admit that I enjoyed being an outlaw when I drove across Illinois with a truck load of guns and 20K rounds of ammo. It's a permanent move, even though I hung on to my Oregon property. My wife is loving her new job running a statewide program for one of the medical schools. Among the perks of living here:

1) Constitutional Carry
2) No BGC on private gun sales
3) Nearly everyone here likes guns
4) Red state conservative political atmosphere
5) Schools are not indoctrinating my kids
6) Virtually no homeless
7) Almost no graffiti
8) Nobody cares about your pronouns
9) Green haired people are damn few and far between
10) Damn few sh*tbox Subarus covered in leftist stickers and driven by angry, mean faced, clipped haired women at 15 mph
11) Statewide school vouchers
12) No DEQ except the two counties bordering Chicago
13) They still have sit down restaurants here
14) Costco, Home Depot, and dozens of decent restaurants are within 5 minutes of my house
15) $3 gasoline
16) Reasonable speed limits
17) 50% lower real estate prices

I've been involved in open wheel, paved oval track racing since I was 14 years old. I now live 2 miles from Indianapolis Raceway Park, and 5 miles from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I had breakfast the other day at Charlie Brown's, a stone's throw from IMS and a legendary racer's hangout. So far, so good. When I take the oldest kid to her charter prep school each morning I pass by the Turn 2 grandstands at IMS. Looking forward to next Memorial day...and to being able to actually buy and sell some firearms privately without losing 20% to dealers and BCGs.

Good luck to you, sounds like all is okay so far.

I'm too old to make such a move, my children and their children are all in the same Zip Code here, etc., etc. Too late for me. And, I'd never get permission from Mrs. Merkt.

Those two line items go together, in my mind. The winter weather situation might be a discouraging factor. There are tons of homeless in so. Calif., which makes me think weather might be a factor. It's easier to live outside where the climate is more forgiving.

My dad was a car racing fan. In the 50's and early 60's, he used to subscribe to the Indianapolis Times for a full month during the Memorial Day racing season.

Can you imagine the headlines if I'd gotten pulled over in Illinois? "Man stopped for smuggling 3 AR-15s, multiple handguns, and dozens of other long guns, along with 20,000 rounds of ammo into the state!"

Just don't ever find reason to visit Gary.

As I write this, I'm down in Tucson (106 degrees today) wondering how much longer I'll maintain my exile in Washington.

I'm only a few hours drive from Monroe County, OH where my family has been for the last 200 years now. I have a few hundred cousins in that area. A few hours the other direction and I'm in the Ozarks, where I used to have a marina on one of the large lakes. Hunting, fishing, and trapping was at my doorstep.

Hope you like humidity!
Many things I love about Indiana, but the humidity and the lack of anything resembling a mountain are not on the love list.
At least they now allow certain rifles for hunting and you can usually get more than one deer a season.
It's a beautiful state, but not for me.

One other comparison. My relatives that live in Oregon are on the whole much healthier than my Indiana relatives. Dad summed this up thinking it was the opportunity to breathe less polluted air.

I'll take a little humidity over this...

"He had an arsenal!!!"

Whenever the PD stumbles across some guns in a house, a Marlin Model 60 and 200 rounds of .22 LR is an "arsenal."

They would have your A$$ if you been caught without a FOID card ! I said it before the only good thing to come out of Illinois is "The Blues Bros " and by that I mean the OG one !

Ann Arbor Michigan had brutal winters and yet a high concentration of homeless when I attended there. I believe it was for two reasons, steam vents and a high concentration of libtards.
Of course, back then, I was a libtard and worked with the homeless.

Congrats. I baled out too. The cost of living just priced me out. Not to mention the ongoing liberal garbage and anti 2A agenda . I've been in western Montana for 3 weeks now. I'm a little further from Costco and Home Depot ( 2 hours) but there is not any pink hair nose ring freaks in this area either.

I had been considering Montana. We have some property near Essex, but it has the same drawback as the ranch in Maupin, that being it's a couple hours from civilization. But my wife landed a life changing job opportunity in Indianapolis, so here we are.

My family in Indiana assures me they have mountains, they even sent me a picture of one. They are right, it is a BEAUTIFUL "mountain"!... (here in Oregon we call them overpasses.)
