He could have walked in there with a machete or samurai sword and done the same thing, having a particular kind of gun is really not the point. Without anyone in the theater having a gun to stop him he could have kept going. Sounds like he had all the time in the world to reload. Nobody thought to do a Flight 93 on the guy and tackle him. Just one person with a CHL and some training could have stopped this within a few seconds after it started. That is the lesson. You can't stop a madman with a plan by passing more laws. There is already a law against murder. If you are a sociopath you won't care. As for how he got it. Credit card companies will issue to anyone when you are in college. Now I guess he is not too worried about paying back his loans.

The problem I'm having is the same people that do not know the difference between a clip and magazine, an AK-47 and any other firearm are the same people reporting on the murders attire. They associate any accessory that the military or law enforcement uses to be "Tactical" and just assume if it's black or camo it's bulletproof.

I once posted on FB, I hate google, it's turned everyone into an expert on everything! The people in the journalism field are prof of that, IMHO.

I keep hearing speculators (btw- who don't have the stones to physically stand up to danger or tyranny) stating that it most likely would have been worse if one or more CCW people had been there shooting up the place. I contend that its a deterrent to would be "jokers" that they may get slotted before they score, and HISTORICALLY choose "gun free zones" like schools, and the like.

He wasn't an idiot for crying out loud... he was an academic "superstar", and those types tend to analyze the pee-wad out of EVERYTHING they endeavour to do. I guarantee he knew the anti-gun legal environment of the city and the policy of that theater... He knew what he was doing,

That's a weak argument. Sure somebody could have cut a number of people in public with a machete or a sword. But their victim count likely would not be that high. Firearms make it easier to kill, especially for poorly trained users.

Same goes for firearm types. The guy could have had the shotgun only, but likely he would not have been able to discharge as many rounds in that period of time, hitting 70+ people.

Anti-gun groups are not trying to eliminate such incidents, they are trying to reduce number of victims.

My main point is simply that you don't even need a gun to assault and kill people, but you sure could use one to effectively defend against it. 9/11 the terrorists took over the airliners using $2 box cutters. resulting in thousands of deaths, an armed air marshal or flight crew could have stopped it. In 1994 during the Rwanda genocide during which Hutu groups conducted mass killings of Tutsis estimated at about 800,000 deaths were largely carried out by untrained people using $4 machetes made in China. Unarmed victims could not fight back against this. I was not trying to argue that guns are less effective and efficient in killing because clearly they are. That is why we issue soldiers rifles instead of swords and spears. But you make a good point because anti gun groups will use this to demonize the guns. Eliminating these incidents is not at all what anti gun groups want to have happen, because it gives them the "crisis" they need to cry out that "we've got to do something to prevent this. Let's ban "assault weapons" and "high capacity magazines" However even if they could somehow successfully ban and confiscate all firearms, it wouldn't change the fact that a street thug doesn't need a gun to rob you or assault you, but one sure comes in handy if you need to defend yourself. A society with a large majority of people being armed and well trained could have stopped this senseless murder spree quickly within seconds preventing most of the deaths. There is a reason guys like this don't assault the local police station, they wouldn't get very many shots off before being put down.

Also you argue that if he had just a shotgun there would have been less victms. I'm not so sure. Maybe he wouldn't have hit all 70 people and got as many shots off but I think there would have been many more dead per round fired. I believe it is a very good thing he left the shotgun in the car because if he hadn't the death toll would have been much greater. Hitting 70 people means he reloaded and fired many many times. I agree a magazine fed weapon is easier and faster to reload. But this incident took many minutes to unfold not seconds. The fact that only 14 died compared to the 70 he hit shows that he was not well trained but had an awful lot of time. It was bang bang bang, reload bang bang bang not ratatatat. Sadly the victims waited their turn having no other option if their path of escape was blocked.

Anyway no matter what sociopaths like this choose to bring with them now or in the future, regardless of if they have access to the same kinds of firearms or just whatever they can get their hands on, the solution is still the same..... Lots of armed well trained citizens among us. Maybe that's a week argument but it sure beats sitting in a theater waiting your turn to be murdered at will.

Not to beat a dead horse about the ability to assault and kill without a firearm but this story just popped up. Teen kills 9 with a knife in China. Gun Control is a lot stronger there but was no protection.

I bought a vest for when I take carbine/other field classes with rookies and get shot (LOL) I may have a chance. Day to day, no. But when a dozen people are running around me, circling me, learning how an AR works I want my vital organs encased. I am probably on a list somewhere because I have a vest, a master criminal. I wish this garbage would just die. BTW, a decent vest with inserts is $700-$1000.00. This joker asshat has credit cards, no big deal.

Still have a skeptical eye on the whole story. Whether or not this guy was a patsy/stooge or really an independent person who lost it and went ballistic (literally). Time will tell, although the sheep don't believe in 'conspiracies'.

Going to see the Batman movie soon and curious as to what the mood will be like in the theater. Lloyd Center. Most assuredly there will be at least a dozen CHLs in the house.
