Radiation Therapy starts Oct 9th. 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Chemotherapy add with radiation was an option but I declined. The reason is as this is a very rare and aggressive cancer the few studies showed no difference in the 3 to 5 year outcomes (those treated with chemo and radiation vs radiation only therapies). The Medical Oncologist left it up to me as he would have added the chemo but also agreed with me in declining this right now.

This cancer tends to metastasize to the lungs about 80% of cases studied and the Radial Oncologist had me get a CT scan of my chest and I was clear so that was very good news. If at some point this cancer shows up in my lungs or another area I will add the chemotherapy as well as additional radiation at that time. I'm hoping that this cancer is still in the head and neck area and maybe the radiation will kill those cells. We will see.

Prayers and blessings, may Dad release His healing upon you, making you disease free and giving you a full recovery. I understand going with just radiation, may that be sufficient to make you cancer free.

@Midasknight, sorry to hear about your heath issues. I can relate as I've been fighting my cancer for four years now. I went through high dose radiation for several weeks followed by lots of chemo, it was fairly effective and got me back to a pretty normal life. Prayers coming your way. I don't work too far from your location so if you need something please hit me up.

@kmk1012

Thank you. As I get into this Radiation treatment I'll reach out as I'm sure I'll have some questions.

If you have a chance before surgery, and you can cover the cost of likely out of pocket consultation (guessing $200), please consider This naturopath who specializes in oncology.

I say "before surgery" because I have a friend who has rectal cancer and has had it for years. She gets ultrasounds occasionally, to gauge the shrinking of her tumor, but refused to have it cut into or removed bc when you do you run the chance of doing cancer's work for it, the cancer's cells being loose and going elsewhere in your body.

She controls the proportion of the tumor by using dietary means. Woman is a farmer & tough as nails.

I cannot specify which diet to try but the NDs at the hyperlinked clinic, above, can.

Alright, Amigo:

This journal article about Quercitin

Is about the most the Internet is willing to give away about how very useful quercitin is to fight throat related illness, including Thyroid Papillary Carcinoma.

I'm a layman but I take it every time a throat-type cold is coming up, and it kills what ails me.

Elsewhere on the net they try to cover it up, but per usual, this somewhat high falutin link is one of those back door opportunities to get the truth.

Also don't expect your MD friend to recommend this remedy. They get paid for the heavy lifting.

It's worth a shot.

I am not an MD, but was a low tier non physician practitioner. I will try to find more info and take the link to where it goes. It sounds interesting.

Last week I finished Radiation and the week before finished the Chemo.

I'm very tired and sleep quite a bit. They told me the two weeks after treatment is finished is the hard part. And at this point I would not disagree. Lost 35 lbs. so far and I'm sure more to come. Can't eat very well as I lost all taste about a month ago at the same time there is a disgusting taste of sorts in my mouth that makes it almost impossible to eat as I get nausea from it. Mostly liquids right now.

Jeebus, you're bringing back memories from about 4 years ago for me. You are on the right track, knowing what to expect and no surprises. I went through that crap and now on daily maintenance dose of chemo, aside from my every 28 day infusions. It sucks but better than the alternative for sure. Please PM me if you'd like to talk. I'm also gearing up for another bone marrow transplant in the near future which is no fun either. I've done a lot of this sh!t already and can shed some light on it if it helps. God speed my brother! Enjoy everyday, that's what I changed and it has helped me through.

@Midasknight @kmk1012 sorry to hear that y'all have these health issues. Only have radiation experience as the Mrs just went through breast cancer treatment and yup two weeks after radiation finished weird aches and pains started. Thank God those have subsided. So that's something to be aware of.

We will keep you in our prayers, may Fathers abundant blessings and healing be upon you both.
