Hey all, I am in the market for a new gun belt. I currently use a well worn Mitch Rosen and its lost the better portion of its rigidity. There are a lot of choices out there, but I have little experience outside of the belt I own at the moment. I'm considering one with a steel core, but am not sure if it's a good choice. I've looked at Bigfoot, Hanks, Crossbreed & Beltman. Anyone have experience with any of these brands? Especially interested in your opinion if you've tried a bullhide or a steel reinforced one.

Personally i prefer this for EDC. Stylish, functional, traditional. Best worn cocked off one hip.

If you need a dress belt, I'd go for a Beltman. My favorite is the Wilderness 5 Stitch Instructor belt. The one I was the most upset about spending money on was the 5.11 Trainer.

I got an elephant hide belt from The Beltman 12 years ago. I wear it every day. I am certain it will last at least another 12. It was $180. Buy once, cry once. IMHO, this is a spectacular belt. Looks like a high end dress belt. I did get a stiffener.
Best,
Gary

I go for stitched double layer rawhide types I feel keep shape longer than single layer rawhide belts of the same thickness. I believe 1/8th to be too thin. 5/32nd min. 3/16 max.
Whether it is two piece or one piece it should have heavy thread stitching around edge to help keep it from stretching and make them look nice. A properly burnished edge will help keep moisture out.
Maintain the moisture seal with shoe polish every several months. many western stores have large varieties of well made and reasonable priced leather belts.

Filson double leather belt. I have worn the same one daily nearly 20 years and it still is stiff and looks good. Made in Seattle.

Do you have a regional Grange Retail Store? They usually have blank type HD belts. Also used for horse tack. Non expensive. Make your own. Be sure your pants belt loops are tall enough. We custom fit our Levi 501 pants. Add taller HD belt loops. Remove some. The thicker wider belts seems to work for us. We figure a 6 inch bigger waist size. Inside The Pants Paddle holster plus Multiple magazine holsters. Do not forgo the suspenders for a heavier load out. Zombies always threaten. :)

For holsters and stuff you will actually forget that you are using and thus packing because they are that comfy.

Been looking myself. Considering bigfoot, also.

I think there's a thread or three here, where members expressed being happy with bigfoot. Also lots who recommend five stitch wilderness instructors belt.

Following.

I'm another who uses the Wilderness 5 Stitch Instructor's Belt. But if you're in the city, something appropriate seems like a tougher search, but lots of city folk carry.
Maybe take a look at some sites like LAPoliceGear and similar.

This is another reason I live in the woods. No dress code. ;)

Man! Elephant belt do look fantastic! Might have to get me one of those!

I have the 14oz steel core Bigfoot belt and highly recommend them. Excellent quality, nice attractive looking belt and the 14oz holds up the heaviest gun very stable. If, and I mean if, I have to buy another belt for the money it will be from Bigfoot.

Bigfoot 14 oz., steel lined belt, in my humble opinion, is really tough to beat. Been wearing one daily for nearly a year, no stretching or shape shifting. It's as rigid and straight today as when I purchased it.

Steel lined helps to pull the firearm into your body for a more stable and consistent carry. With other belts, I found myself adjusting because the belt wasn't rigid and would sag and shift during the day. I don't find that happening with the Bigfoot gun belt.

Just one satisfied customers opinion...
