Some people believe in individual liberty. Some don't. It is pretty straight forward. The whiny anti-freedom crew can attempt to frame it in other terms, but the fact remains they are opposed to free citizens exercising their rights.
Isn't that called "Socialism"?!?!?Yes, I remember a conversation with a college age relative... this relative stated that things such as "enforced charity" were commonly taught in the University. The idea being promulgated was that individuals, left to their own habits/beliefs/practices, would not contribute money nor effort on their own to help their brethren, and therefore for the good of all had to be forced or conscripted by a benevolent government to do what is right (via taxes and such). It comes down to individuality vs the group. Their assertion is that left to their own devices, people will not act to benefit others. So they use that assertion to further separate young skulls full of mush from their liberty. It's the same old big gov socialist scam. Yet, a simple look around gives ample, if not huge, amounts of evidence that it just ain't so. Americans remain one of the most generous people on the planet. Even considering that universities are teaching kids that gov will take care of charitable needs/efforts. We haven't reached the tipping point just yet. Now where did I put those checks to Dogs for the Deaf, Children's Hospitals, Shriner's Hospitals, Wounded Warriors, Haiti relief fund, Thai cave rescue, Bat Conservation International, Diane Fossey Gorilla fund, Marine Mammal Center, Performing Animal Welfare Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Child Find, Ronald McDonald House, Save the Children, Innocence Project, Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, Christopher Reeve Foundation, ALS Association, Clinton Foundation, Trout Unlimited, Wilderness Society, Rainforest Alliance, Habitat for Humanity, Homes for Our Troops, Committee to Protect Journalists, Feed My Starving Children, Catholic Relief Services, Fistula Foundation, UNICEF, Simon Wiesenthal Center, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Brookings Foundation, American Enterprise Institute, Judicial Watch, Population Council, Fisher House, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc etc?
