The grain,, damn that looks like some good splitting. If a person doesn't have a splitter, it doesn't get much better than that!

Split half rounds off log with wedges ... split the rest with an axe...

Have any mule tape or other flat rope? Tie a loop in one end, wrap it around the round twice and secure it off to the loop.
You split away, when all the wedges are cut, release the loop end. You don't have to bend over to stand another piece again

It is a great log. Only find one of these every couple years. have to be dilligent about checking on honey holes. got lucky this time theres another with it. just not as big might go after this weekend.

The pics of that old growth log brings back a lot of memories cutting up cedar for shake bolts over thirty years ago.
It was incredibly hard work, but I was young and in very good shape.
I loved being out in the woods and it paid very well too.
